How does Section Work - It is indecipherable

clement5 wrote on 2/14/2022, 3:21 PM

The old version of section just set the section and then you could to size and position to position the section you want. I have 2 images that I want to put next to each other, and just crop one of them. I could do that before. But now the directions and behavior is indecipherable. If I position one picture and then try to cut a section, it does not cut it proeperly. I have to first set it to full window, and then adjust the cut, but when I go back to size&position there is no section. It is absolutely useless. I have used the old section for years, so WHY DID THEY CHANGE IT?

The icon looks like the standard crop image, but it doesn't do that.

@clement5

Hi.

They didn't change it as far as I'm aware. It is a known bug in this version of the program although for me it only seems to effect video clips and not jpgs. This has been reported to Magix. More than once. They are aware of the problem and have been for some time.

Ray.

I found out how to make it work. Click on something else and the section selection is solidified, but click on Size and it goes back to the original. It works quite differently from older versions where the area selected is what you get. In this one you have to click preview to see what you are getting, and it is not the same area selected except when the particular object is full screen size. This is sooo perverse and not the same as the standard crop selections in other video or picture editors The help file does not detail how it works. Also if you select the same object, it goes back to the original setting. It is just another of their inconsistent user unfriedly changes. One of my favorites is in outputting 3D side-be-side views. They fixed it to work the way it really should, but in the process they neglected to tell the user that the selection was not proper. They just silently produce no output. The old method produced nasty output or warned the user. Is no output better than nasty?????

No, the whole effect doesn't work properly. It's bug-ridden and a mess.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
