How to apply the ''Vegas 360 stabilization'' feature to video in MEP??

I have MEP pro, and have a video I want to stabalise.

I have selected the video, clicked on ''vegas 360 stabilization'', and then clicked ''apply effect''.
(The functions under the 'vegas 360 stabilization' menu such as 'smoothness' are all greyed-out)

But so does the vegas 360 stabilization feature work simply by clicking ''apply effect'' like I've done?
Or have I missed out on certain required stages to actually implement this feature to the video?

It's a click and forget, although I prefer the other stabilization effect offered.

Yes that's the one I meant.
*My video wasn't filmed in ''360 / 3D'' though | Was just a normal video.

I clicked ''apply effect'', although all those options are greyed out.

Not sure how much difference the stabalisation actually makes though?

I know Windows Movie Maker offers a similar function, which does stablise videos, however it also makes the video more zoomed in, which I don't want.

Any electronic or software based stabilization works by zooming in on the image. Even within a camera such as a Go-Pro, it is done that way. Mechanical stabilisation works by sensors measuring camera shake and then making the camera lens elements move in the opposing direction of a cameras movement and 'floating' the lens. Some smaller camera sensors can be moved via piezoelectric forces within a limited movement range but larger movement than that is compensated for by recording and cropping the outer edges of the frame out, reducing the effective photo-site count. The worse the movement the more cropping takes place and the more the image is zoomed in.

The last and most unused way (until large megapixel count phone sensors were developed) is to use a larger sensor than required and have enough room around the edges of the frame to have enough photo sites not normally in use to shift recording to. This is what happens with say a full frame sensor camera capable of recording 4K video but only using it to record 1080p or 2.7K. The effect can be scaled down to smaller sensors with enough photo-sites that can be made redundant until needed. Essentially using the centre portion of the frame to record onto.

Once such footage is recorded though, if there is still camera shake, then cropping and the zoomed in effect must occur to correct the problem as there is no additional recorded frame image to shift to.

The options in my example were not greyed out because I was applying it to a 2D video.

Which version are you using?

If your video is not 360° then why are you trying to use Vegas 360° Stabilization?

There is regular Vegas Video Stabilization under Video Effects. There are no options with this either. It analyzes the video and gives you a full screen result. To do this, it has to zoom in and uses the maximum zoom required as the factor for the entire clip. To see the result without zooming, uncheck the Auto Zoom box.

There is also proDAD Mercalli 2.0 under Video Effects. After analyzing the video, you get more options that you can tweak and then analyze again. This also uses the maximum zoom required for the entire clip.

For those who have MEP Premium, you may have Mercalli V4 or Mercalli V5. This is the fully-blown version and will adjust the zoom over time. This is much better. Note that Mercalli V4 and V5 may be limited to two years with MEP.
