How to Change Hand to Cursor

Whoking wrote on 2/9/2026, 7:23 AM

Sorry for being a complete idiot. I have Music Maker 26 and haven’t had a new version in 20 years. All I’m trying to do is a simple cut out of blank space and noise in a recorded wav file. After I load the wave I only get the hand which allows me to move the wav around. How do I change to the cursor so I can select a portion of the audio to highlight and cut or edit? I have wasted too much time trying to find the answer searching. The magix tutorial tells you what to do but not how to do it. Much appreciated.

@Whoking

Welcome to the Magix forums.

First, can we establish whether you have Music Maker 2026, which is actually version 34, or whether you are asking about version 24, so a much older product?

Assuming you have MM 2026 it would seem you want to highlight a part of an object (MIDI or .wav file) on screen to delete it. Is that correct?

If it is, the procedure is:

  • Place the cursor at the beginning of the section you wish to remove.
  • Select the Scissors icon from the toolbar, or simply press T. This cuts the file at that point.
  • Repeat the process for the end of the section you wish to remove.
  • You now have a "separate object".
  • Highlight it (click on it) and delete it.

Hi Jeff. It is Music Maker 2026 Premium. When you say cursor you mean the Hand? I don’t have a cursor or don’t know how to get it. Thank you.

@Whoking

Sorry, yes, for MM the cursor can be a hand.

When I start an MMM project and add an audio file, right at the beginning of the track I see the following:

The cursor is the red line! Do you not see this? (Certainly if you move the mouse pointer anywhere on top of the file it will become a hand!) That red line can be dragged to any point along the file or you can simply click in the grey area (the key indicator) and the cursor/red line will jump to that point.

Does that help you?

Hi

In addition to @emmrecs comment, the Hand will change to a double headed arrow when the mouse pointer is over the red triangle of the timeline cursor as shown below

The Hand moves objects on the timeline, and, depending on where you hover the mouse over in the program interface, the mouse pointer will change to one of several different icons to indicate what they do.

Hi,

Yes I have the red line and I can move it to mark and cut. I don't have the grey bar, so I have to scroll the wave file back and forth sometimes to find the red line.

Thank you.

@Whoking

To see the "grey bar" go to View>Arranger>Show pitch ranges and click to activate it.
