How to Edit Multi-Track Audio from a single mp4/mkv Multi-Cam Vid

ISSUE:
Recorded multi-cam OBS live stream and I now need to edit it, however, I can't get the audio from track two [2] to separate from track one [1] so they can be properly faded and balanced.

I have separated the audio from the vid, copied the audio track such that the copy is under the original and both are sync'd up with the vid -- however -- right-clicking either copy and hovering over "switch current audio track," "Audio track 1," and "Audio track 2," become selectable. "Audio track 1" is selected, and cannot be deselected; no matter how many times "Audio track 2" is clicked it will not switch over...

Do I just burn my rig, or...???

Hi,

A picture is worth a thousand words. I really had trouble, and still do.

As far as I can figure, you're in multi-cam mode and you're trying to do something that either should not or cannot be done in that mode. Do you know how multi-cam mode works? If not, see my tutorial.

When you have finished with the multi-cam mode, exit it and clear/delete the objects on tracks 3 and on. If the audio on track 2 is a bunch of cut pieces, which it probably is, delete all of them except the first object, and then extend the right side of the audio object to the end of the video part, or the end of the audio object, whichever comes first. Remember, you selected the audio from one of the cameras to be the master, and this is the master.

Now Ctrl+left mouse drag straight down the audio file onto track 3 to make a copy.

Double-click on the audio file on track 2 (please use the right track numbers - you said you had audio on tracks 1 and 2, I say where did the video go?) to open the audio editor. Open the Stereo tab and the preset popdown and select left channel only.

Do the same with the audio on track 3, but select right channel only. Now you have the left and right channels on separate tracks and you can edit them separately. Make sure to group them so that they don't go out of sync, and maybe group with the first video object as well.

If I'm wrong about all of this, give us screen shots and a description to match.
