How to export movie with 5.1 surround - Video Deluxe MX Pro

Tomasz_Lida wrote on 8/3/2013, 5:29 AM

Hi,

I've bought Video Deluxe MX Plus with an idea to make movies with surround sound. Software was described as 5.1 surround ready.

There are many troubles on the way - no support for professional multichannel sound card (stereo only), no way to include LFE mono channel, et caetera.

But the greatest surprise was during exporting to movie file. There is no way to export sound other than stereo and mono. There is something about codecs in help, but nothing serious about how to implement it.

Please help.

Hi,

I see that you are a "former member".  I am a little curious about why you are no longer a member yet still are asking current members for support.  Remember, we are all members here, we do not work for Magix, we are simply users helping other users.  Having said that, I have no problem helping you out, and the version of Movie Edit Pro I have has no problem handling 5.1 sound.  I have the version prior to MEP 2013 and have never had a problem with 5.1 audio.  MEP 2013 definitely supports 5.1 audio, so what version are you using?

You say there is no support for multi-channel sound cards, but what card are you using, and is it supported by the version of the product that you are using?

You need to understand that by asking a vague question, you are very likely to get a vague answer because none of us on this forum know what your system looks like, what version of MEP you have, and what sound card you are talking about.  Please help us help you by providing a little more information.

Hi George,

I'm a litle bit frustrated, sorry for it :-)

First of all, writing my post I've choosen Movie Edit Pro from the list as the best reffering to my Video Deluxe MX Plus, which is absent on the list.

I'm surprised of my 'former member' status, I've logged in - that's it. Funny.

My card is RME UFX, I'm sound engineer, working with movie is marginal, but sometimes it happens. And surround the first time. To be honest - my frustration was directed to Magix people, who (I hope) have a look on the forum from time to time.

Apart absence of surround in movie export, the thing is not only - 'to be 5.1 or not to be'. In real world of surround there are really many options of encoding it, I expect. I'm ready to pay for appropriate codec, but in the help file there is no explanation 'if' nor 'how'.

To recapitulate: George - you have another, better software, but maybe you know how to obtain Dolby Digital codecs, and how to use it inside our great Magix piece of software.

Regards!!

Hi Tomek

As George has said, 5.1 works great in MEP MX Plus -  provided the codecs are activated.

There is a very comprehensive section in the PDF manual from page 179 that describes the proceedure and options for export. It is not entirely intuative but feel free to come back and clarify any points.

Hi all !!

First of all: my "Video Deluxe MX Plus" and yours "Movie Edit Pro" are perfect the same. Different trade names in different countries.

Thanks Ss!! I've read manual from page 179, and next from 305 and I'm lost. I can't find out how to install codec, and which one :-/

BUT - tell me pls - if you want to export a movie (not DVD burn), do you have 5.1 option with format other than MPEG-4/AVCHD-Transportstream (what means .m2ts file)? Can you produce .mp4 file or AVI or whatever with surround sound?

If someone remember a day when your Dolby Digital 5.1 codec (to produce, not to play) was installed - please drop me a line..

Thanks all!!

Tomek

Hi

Yes the programs have the same functionality in different countries.

m2ts and mts are files used by AVC(HD) camcorders and I believe set top video recorders to record their video.

The program usually prompts you to activate the DD stereo and 5.1 codecs when you first try create a video with a DD soundtrack. If not you may have already activated the codec through an earlier version of VDL/MEP. If not go to the top menu above the preview monitor and click Tasks > 7. Activate additional functions > activate codecs and it will take you to the relavent section in the help files. It may be possible that you have not registered your product.

Note that the program always downmixes to stereo if you bring a 5.1 soundtrack to the timeline. You then need to display the separate tracks with a right click on the audio and activate the 5.1 option in the mixer (M) to hear them.

It is possible to export MPEG2(HD) and WMVHD with 5.1 (compressed) sound and also Bluray with LPCM 5.1 (via the Burn Bluray section).

Hi!!

Peter, you helped me much - thanks!! I've probably activated codec at the beginning - with AVCHD, MPEG2 HD and WMV HD it works.

For people, who want to export movie with good 5.1 sound to file (like me) - I've discovered alternative, very good solution using Reaper (Digital Audio Workstation). Working on sound with it (like me, again) you can work with video making your postproduction. NOW - you can render it straight to a video file (with ffmpeg library you have many really good options) - all inside DAW. The best way for my needs is rendering it to AVI with PCM surround sound. If I want to export it to more contemporary format later on, I can use Handbrake - a great video trascoder: http://handbrake.fr/

Great thanks all!!
