How to get VPX to recognize codec

keruxjeff wrote on 4/1/2019, 8:23 PM

I have imported some video files off an old Canopus editing system. VPX would not play them. Then I downloaded the appropriate codec, but how can I get VPX to use it? Windows Media Player is using it just fine. Is there a setting on my PC or in VPX that I can include that codec for the VPX to use? And if so, where can I find that place to do it?

Hi

. . . . Then I downloaded the appropriate codec . . . .

Which codec and from where?

If the codec was downloaded by Windows Media Player then it does not share them with other programs.

A MediaInfo analysis of the file you are importing will give a clear picture of what you are dealing with, analyse the file and then copy the results from the Text view and paste them into a comment.

It's off a Canopus system, so it's likely Grass Valley HQ or HQX CODEC.

Encoder and Decoder is freely available form Grass Valley at Edius.net

After installing it, the files will be compatible with any NLE that supports DirectShow Decoders (and Encoders), and it will play back in any media playback applications that can utilize those - Windows Media Player being the "Reference." They'll also show thumbnails in File Explorer.

VEGAS Pro, Fusion 9, CyberLink/Corel/Pinnacle NLEs, etc. all can utilize this Decoder (and Encoder, in most cases); so if it isn't working it has something to do with Video Pro X not utilizing the DirectShow Decoder for loading these files.
