How to import a .avi or other movie file format into a project

I am unable to drag an .avi file into my Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0 project, how can I do this?

Just a quick note to say that I managed to fix it by installing "x264vfw_full_44_2851bm_44825.exe" from Sourceforge.
