How to install mp3 codec so it appears on avi export

Hey guys!

I'm trying to export my movie to avi and I want the video to be encoded in xvid and the audio to be mp3. I'm using MEP 17 Download Edition on a Windows 7 x64 machine and I'm exporting my movie via File > Export Movie > Video as AVI.

I downloaded the xvid codec from their site, installed it and had no problems finding it in the list of available codecs in the AVI export dialog. The list can be reached by clicking the Advanced button.

However, as much as I tried to install the mp3 codec so it appears in the list of the codecs for audio compression I had no luck. The only codec that is showing there is PCM (no compression).

I already tried lame ACM and lame directshow filter mp3 software.

Can you please provide me with a step by step instruction how the mp3 codec can be added to the list of audio compression codecs on avi export?

Have I said 'please' already? :)

Hit Advanced, then Audio Compression. Select MPEG layer-3 under the Codec pull-down menu.

You do realize that PCM wil give you better quality sound.

JohnnyO, thanks for your answer, but my problem was that the MPEG layer-3 codec was *NOT* showing under the Codec pull-down menu. And my question was:

How can I make it appear there?

Is there a special procedure for installing it? Or should I install a specific codec? Or are there any Windows 7 x64 settings involved?

Same problem here. I use vdl 17 plus und windows 7 64 bit. There are many threads with this problem, but no solution yet. Can anyone help me please?

I also have the same problem with MEP 2015 Plus. So far support has provided no guidence on how to resove this issue.

If you are still around, how did the original poster resolve this issue?
