How to lower the quality of the preview video to speed up program

Hello, I recently lost a project file and tried to get it back by resetting the program to its default settings. I had the preview video lowered to a tiny resolution, I think, so that the program ran smoothly, but now I can't get it back to whatever settings I had it on that made it run fine. I tried right clicking the preview video and setting the resolution to 1/4, but it just makes the video tiny and the program still runs like garbage. It has to think for about 10 seconds after I click a single thing. It's a big project file, yes, but it used to run much better and I don't remember what settings I had that made it run smoothly. What setting allows the video to be lower resolution without actually appearing tiny? I've also tried checking and unchecking the "overloard optimization for realtime playback" option. Please help. I've also checked "reduce resolution" and "reduce framerate" in the upper left video menu. Didn't help either.

I knew right away something was different because when I loaded the new program with the default settings, the video looked really really grainy because there was so much resolution and detail crammed into the tiny preview window. But I can't get back to what it was. 😰

Thanks in advance.

Hi

. . . . I tried right clicking the preview video and setting the resolution to 1/4 . . . .

AFAICS Right click has no option to do this I think you have zoomed out the preview window..

However the option you want is in two places:

The Preview monitor settings - click the 'hamburger' top left of the preview monitor and select Performance for the settings to improve playback performance - these are the options I have set.

The Lightning flash bottom right of the Preview monitor - right click to get the same options as above and ensure that the lightning icon is turned on ie blue.

I thought I tried the lightning thing but apparently I wasn't patient enough to see if it helped. I hadn't tried the visible jog thing either. No idea what that means but I trust you haha. It appears to be back to normal now. Thanks!

Hi

The visible jog setting is the jog/scrub/shuttle wheel - see image below, left circle item - that lets you scrub backwards and forward through the timeline - more info in the installed PDF manual under Help.

Note you may have to expand the size of the preview monitor to get the controls visible once you have turned them on.

There is another control setting associated with this that lets you hear the sound as you scrub through the timeline as shown below
