How to put link on video

How do I put a clickable link on video? There is expensive software to do this, but then my video is hosted on their video player which displays their Google ads.

I think that any link is, as you suggest, will be specific to or part of the playing program, not the actual video clip. Still images on web pages can certainly have areas with links using 'image maps' --see: http://www.htmltutorials.ca/lesson20.htm -- but I don't know if they can be used on video.
