I cannot drag objects in the timeline.

Hi guys. ı somebody can help me with this. Something weird all of the sudden happened. It used to work, but not I cannot drag objects around inside the timline. When I click on an object, the had icon come up; but when I move the mouse, the hand icon turns into a "no-parking" icon and doesnt move the object. I alsso cannot strech/shorten objects. The bottom scrollbar also doesn't work for some reason. When I click on it it catapults me to the far-right end of the timeline.

Why might have happened? All other Windows programs work weill, so I believe it's not system-wide. I'ce tried an uninstall, registry clean-up and re-install. But the problem is not gone.

This has been driving me crazy for the past 2 hours and I was not able to find anything on Google, so I thought I ask you here... Fingers crossed for a soluton!

ktaluv,

Only thing I can think of is your having maybe messed with the lock track options somehow, but the symptoms seem very strange.

Regards,

Carl

Hi Carl,

Thanks a lot for your thoughts on this, but no, that's not it... And yes, the symptoms are VERY strange indeed.

Hi Kurt,

As the problem has survived a re-install of MEP (what version?) and presumably occurs with even a single JPG on the timeline, it does seem to point to a problem elsewhere. Yet the mouse (with a fresh battery if it's that type) behaves OK in your other graphics programs, video players, etc?

You say it's sudden, so as a practical quick fix possibility I'd try a system restore or two, progressively older.

And maybe also open the Run box and runsfc /scannow (or equivalent in your unspecified OS) to ensure all key Windows DLLs etc are present.

Also take a look at your Mouse settings in Control panel (or equivalent) to see if anything has accidentally got scrambled.

Hi Terry,

Thank you very much for your reply. I followed your advice and did three system restores (I am on Windows 8.1, by the way). I uninstalled and reinstalled the program three times, I spent a great deal of time cleaning the system registry of every single trace of Magix... nothing worked. But what DID work is this (you may want to keep this in mind, in case you encounter similar difficulties): I installed the program and used a free software named "Revo Uninstaller", which I found on the Internet, in order to uninstall Movie Edit Pro. This software also scanned my hard drive in-depth, in order to find any traces left of the program. Afterwards I reinstalled Movie Edit and voilà! It works again!!! :)))

Again, thank you very much for taking the time to help me with this!

Kind regards,

Kurt

Hi Kurt,

Thanks for mentioning Revo. I used it a while back and it did as you have indicated.

I think I'll try it with Xara as I can't even get it to install properly (not even with Magix Xara's help).

I just noticed that it has a 30 day limit and I have to buy it.

Hi Kurt,

Glad you got it sorted. I too use Revo for all my uninstalls.

There are also frequent recommendations here to always use the Magix Cleaner tool, which is downloadable here:

Hi John,

Worth it IMO. So many programs leave stuff behind to screw things up after re-installing, often in some obscure way that's hard to isolate. Pity that Magix products seem guilty of this too!

I think Terry is right. Revo seems to be a way better alternative to the Windows stock uninstaller. I think I will buy it too and use it for all my uninstalls from now on.

It didn't solve my problem with Magix Xara. I had to reinstall Xara to be able to uninstall it using Revo. Revo used the Magix Xara Uninstaller to uninstall the program and then took over. It found stuff that the Uninstaller did not remove and that I had not found either, and removed everything.

This was my experience with Revo from before and it really does find those loose ends.

Unfortunately, this did not solve my problem with Xara and reinstalling it gave me the same errors. I tried both the 64 and 32 bit versions, unsuccessfully.

I did successfully uninstall and reinstall Xara X9, so there is definitely something wrong with X10. Xara support is still trying to figure this out.

Kurt, glad to see that you were successful with MEP. Which version did you install?

Hi John,

I'm sad to hear that you are cannot install X10. I hope Xara or you can solve this issue soon without having to reformat your machine.

I own Move Edit Pro MX Plus (but I'm not very fond of its interface, TBH).
