I have Several Magix products but I am confused about an upgrade

PalaeoMike wrote on 5/22/2022, 9:04 PM

I have been looking at the Movie Studio program and was thinking of buying it. I have Vegas 19 and want to be able to make Blu-rays with menus but the Vegas program does not seem to have this feature. I have Magix Movie Edit Pro as well as Magix Video Pro X both do have this feature but neither can open Vegas files. Question 1: Can the Movie Studio open Vegas files, and Question 2: There are three ways to buy and one is the upgrade, do I qualify for that as I said I have active Vegas, Movie Edit Pro, and Video Pro X subscriptions?

Thank you for your time, I hope you have a wonderful day.

Mike

@PalaeoMike

Hi Mike and welcome to the user to user forums.

Movie Edit Pro as a brand name has now ceased to exist becoming effectively the new Magix Movie studio. Both new program versions are the same. As far as I am aware, as yet, old Vegas files cannot be fully read. Only clip import positions are imported, not applied effects etc. Whether Magix is still working on this or not I couldn't say and have no knowledge of.

Ray.

@PalaeoMike

Hi,

Only Vegas Movie Studio projects, .vf files, can be imported into Magix Movie Studio 2022 and Video Pro X14. Vegas files, .veg, cannot. As Ray indicated, the import is rather limited to the clip positions, not applied effects.

...Vegas, Movie Edit Pro, and Video Pro X subscriptions...

Do you have subscriptions or did you purchase? If you have subscriptions, then upgrades are included in the subscription. With a subscription, if you stop paying, the program stops working.

Which versions, exactly, do you have of Movie Edit Pro and Video Pro X? If you purchased them, then you will see an Update Service period in your account on Magix.com for each project. Take a look. Have they expired?

Note that a subscription and Update Service are not the same thing.

Since you have previous versions of the 3 products, you are elligible for Upgrade pricing.

To create a DVD/BR in MEP/VPX from a Vegas project, render the Vegas project(s), import it into MEP/VPX the normal way, create chapters, use the Burn features. Remember that, unlike Vegas, MEP and VPX have multiple movies (multi-timelines), so you can import several rendered projects from Vegas into separate movies, create movie names and chapters for each, and burn a multi-movie DVD/BR.
