I'm having an issue with 'create a waveform'

TenderMANatee wrote on 7/28/2018, 10:39 PM

HI. I hope someone can help me with this issue. I’m using Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus, version 17.0.1.128, with Windows 10.

I need to replace my audio track from my video, by the one I’ve recorded with a microphone. I know how and what to do, but I’m having an issue with my ‘create a waveform’.

I’ve put my original video on the 1st track, and then with Ctrl + H, separated video from audio. I then did a right click on the audio to get a ‘waveform’ of my audio so it would be easier to edit with the mike track. Except this function does not appear when I do a right click. I’ve put the microphone recording on the 3rd track, did a right click as well, and I could create a waveform! So I’ve tried to highlight both tracks and then did with a right click, ‘Align other audio objects with this track’. But nothing happened. My original track was an .MTS, but I’ve transformed it into an .MP4 just in case, and it still didn’t work. I really don’t know what to do anymore. If there’s anybody who knows what to do next, please let me know. It would be great! Thanks

Hi. By trying all kind of things, I find out what might be the problem...but I still can't find out why. Every video I put on my timeline, don't have any sound. But when I play these videos, outside of Magix, they all have sound. So for a reason I don't know, Magix won't play the sound of my videos, but for my audio tracks, no problem. I've checked the mixer and everything is fine. Hope that helps narrow the problem. Thanks

@TenderMANatee

Hi and welcome to the forum

. . . . Movie Edit Pro Plus, version 17.0.1.128 . . . .

You are missing many patches the current version is 17.0.3.184 update to the latest patch - Help, Update online...

The missing audio may be this issue with mts files, however do the updates first and check in the Program settings, Video/audio tab that the import audio option is also checked, then try importing the video again, if the audio does not appear then try the fix in the topic linked to.

To replace the audio on the video you can either:

  1. right click the video clip and select Audio options, Mute audio object and place the new audio object on a track below the video

  2. click the video object, press Ctrl + H to put the video audio on a seperate track, click the Ungroup button - broken chain link just above the timeline - and then delete the audio. Add the new audio object on a track below the video.

  • Software full name and version number - as found under Help, About . . .

Also when posting please include the following where applicable:

Thank you John for all of these informations. Sorry but I'm new with forums...but I'll try to apply all the rules you've mentioned.

The update fixed the second part of my problem. I do have sound now on my video file. But since I need to replace the audio track of my video by the recorded one with the microphone, I need to aligned both audio tracks before removing the one from the video. But again, with the mouse's right click, I don't have the option of 'creating waveform' on the audio track from my video. But it works with the microphone audio track. I tried Shift + E again, and nothing. I tried to select both audio tracks and do ‘Align other audio objects with this track’, and again, nothing happened. So I'm really not sure what should be my next move. If you can help again, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello again. I've just tried to convert my .MTS track in MP4 first. And then I've split the audio track from the MP4 video and tried to show the waveform...and it worked! So I guess there's either a problem with an audio track from an MTS video, or Magix does not support correctly that kind of file. At least now I can continue my project. Thanks for everything!

@TenderMANatee

Hi

. . . . with the mouse's right click, I don't have the option of 'creating waveform' on the audio track from my video . . . .

This is a known issue which occasionally happens.

To fix this - close the program.

Using Windows Explorer open the folder containing the MTS video files, you should also see some new files with file extension of .H0 and .HDP they may have the same file names as the original video or if you are using proxies files then a name something like this:-

01055_mts_proxy_8e9f1642ccd2b58fbec95423961a7fd9.H0 and 01055_mts_proxy_8e9f1642ccd2b58fbec95423961a7fd9.HDP

Delete the .H0 and .HDP files - they will be recreated when you re-open the project in MEP.

Start MEP and reload the project - you should then be able to create the waveforms for any that are missing.

i've used edit pro for many years but the latest upgrade does not allow .mts audio waveforms, the old projects or converted video works with audio waveforms but i guess i'll switch to a competing editor since support sucks too.

and no more upgrades for me

@medmund-howse

Hi and welcome to the forum

. . . . the latest upgrade does not allow .mts audio waveforms . . . .

Assuming you mean Movie Edit Pro 2021 v 20.0.1.80 then the above statement needs qualifying with more information, as the program does allow waveforms to be displayed as shown below

In order to help you we need this information.

What is your computer specification and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full.

A screenshot of the following Program Settings, Display options and Import/Export tabs

Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips not showing the image and post the results from the Text view of MediaInfo.
