The issue is not really with what size you send them, but the recipients email limitations - some are limited to 2Mb of attachments.

Without knowing what their attachment limit is it is best to limit the total number to under 2Mb.

I generally send up to 6 as JPEG  attachments no bigger than 160 - 250kb depending on the quality setting I use, physical size no bigger than 1024 pixels in the largest dimension.

Never send RAW files as they are too big and the recipient will not know how the image should look like.
