Import clips to Movie Edit Pro Premium 2022 - problem

Piotr- wrote on 7/1/2022, 10:50 AM

Hi

I use latest version MEP Premium 2022 ver. 21.0.2.138 (UDP 3). Since the time I bought such software I haven’t had problem with import movie more than one objects into the project. Now such problem is occured - when I try to import more than one movie clips into the software it crash and i have to use Ctr+Alt+Del in order turn out the MEP. If I import movies clips one by one MEP works normal. This situation is occured when I import movie clips with option „create proxy files” enabled and disabled - it doesn’t matter. Previously I could import over than hundred clips into the project at the same time and MEP worked without problems. Now it is immpossible. My PC: Windows 11 (latest updates); Intel Core I5 9600 KF; DDR 4 16GB; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 / 6GB. Could you have any solution this problem?

Thanks

@Piotr-

Hi

Check that the GTX 1060 drivers are up to date - the latest version is 516.59 (30.0.15.1659) and in the Program settings, Device options tab the Import, Processing and Export options are set to the GTX 1060.

We also need additional information about the video clips you are importing - download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips that you are importing and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

How much free space on the hard drive(s) you have?

Greetings @Piotr-

Further to what @johnebaker asks it would also be useful if you could anayse a clip that previously caused no problem fo comparison purposes.

I had a very similar problem to this with my previous system, I say similar because my problem occured more often with a hundred+ photos dumped into MEP at one time than with several videos.

When you add your videos and MEP seems to hang and become unresponsive, open Task Manager (Control Alt Delete) and look at the MEP entry and see if the CPU % is changing and the system drive is spinning.

When my system used to hang like this I had 100% c drive spinning and the CPU % fluctuated from low to high for (sometimes) 20 minutes or so. It was almost as if MEP was trying to load every photo pixel or video frame into RAM and when finding Ram was full putting the data in Virtual Memory even though actual Ram usage was very low. It was very strange and totally frustrating.

After some time - as I say sometimes up to 20 minutes - MEP behaved itself and performed normally.

Now all of this is assuming that your problem is the same as my problem was. Check the CPU usage and disk spinning next time this happens to you and just let MEP do what it wants to do until it's happy and decides to play properly..

Its not ideal and, of course, it shouldn't happen but where's the fun in using a program that does what you want it to do 😋

Hi.

@johnebaker

Thanks alot for answers. I think that my problem isn’t conected with hard disc becauce I use two SSD. First SSD (500 GB – occupied in 50 %) is for system and software and second (500 GB - free space 140 GB) for movies, pictures, MP3 and somme software - included MEP. I think that speed of writing files on SSD during import is not a problem in this case. I have the latest version drivers (NVIDIA Studio) in graphic card, and options in MEP in the Program settings, Device options tab the Import, Processing and Export options are set to the GTX 1060 - three options „Other” are uncheck.

I use two videorecorders, first is SONY. Informaton from Mediainfo:

@Piotr-

Hi

Thanks for the MediaInfo analysis.

The cameras are using standard formats and codecs, so no issue there.

However there is a potential issue with the DJI video - the average bitrate of 73.2 Mb/s is too high for this resolution and framerate of video - the typical Bitrate I would expect for a 1920 x 1080 resolution video at 50 fps would be 18 - 24 Mb/s

This high bitrate may be the cause of the crashing.

Hi John.

The files size and bit rate from his Osmo Action is not as high as from my Osmo Pocket. It can record in mov as well though, which has been problematic for me so I stick to using MP4 (H264) recording which works just fine.

The first file however seems to have six channel audio.

@Piotr-

Hi. If you are using mov to record, try switching to MP4. Mov seems to be set as default on the Osmo series. You may have to do that via the Mimo app.

Hi Ray

The surround sound is not and issue - my files from my old previous Sony camera are the same specification and they import with no issue.

IIRC we had another user with 1080p at ~80 Mb/s with a similar issue a while ago, I think that was also a DJI camera or drone.

My current Sony records at 80 Mb/s to 100 Mb/s for 4K UHD which has 4 x the amount of pixels as 1920 x 1080

Hi John.

I don't know if or how MEP/MMS 2022 has changed how it does things but I do notice that if importing huge files (or I assume a large bunch of smaller files) that there is excessive amount of disc writing to the C: drive for some considerable time after the files appear to be loaded. To me that says everything is not really ready to roll yet although my system can cope.

if @Piotr- is noticing similar activity I suggest he waits for that to die down before trying to proceed with doing anything else, like playing the timeline.

I don't see a lot of activity from my Intel GPU during this process of ingesting files into the program.

No I hadn't but I've just done a complete refreshed boot up and done as you asked. There will be some interference from Running OBS to record at the same time I guess but here is my result.

A slightly shorter loading time with a fresh reboot but still longer than I would expect. I confess the resulting data means little to me.Do you need a different view?

I think that it isn’t a problem with a high bitrate movie clips from DJI because I use this camcoder 2 years and it is first time to struggle with import into MEP. Additionally, such problem also accures durring import movie files form Sony’s moviecamera that have lower bitrate than DJI.

I tried to use solution @CubeAce and during import video files (when MEP had been crashing) waited about 20 - 30 minutes. Unfortunately MEP was stil hanged that problem isn't solved. I have to import files one by one.

@Piotr-

Hi Peter.

The main differences I see in your setup compared to mine is (if I'm reading this correctly) is that you are running MEP from your second drive. That is something I would never do. All my programs reside on my C: drive.

Your project files are residing on the same drive as the program is trying to run. That's an awful lot of data being shuffled around and while solid state drives are good at speed transfers for small files the performance will drop significantly when handling larger files. Combine that with you having the drive reading and writing both program tasks and loading files and something probably has to give when trying to load that amount of data.

@CubeAce  mayby you’re right. But this software configuration I have had since beginig and always MEP worked without problems. Now, I bought new SSD - faster and bigger, and first, in the near future will try to clone second disk and change it. If this operation isn’t successful I will reinstal and transfer software MEP into „C” disk.
