Import .mp4 and .flv without third party converter in Vegas Pro 15

I'm missing something obvious here. I have to be. I'm trying to import either MP4 or FLV files into Vegas Pro 15.0 but I keep on getting the same error; "File x.flv" or "File x.mp4" "could not be opened.". That's it, no more info.

I've installed quicktime already (first the newest version, deleted it via revo uninstaller, I now have 7.6.5), followed several guides, etc. and I can't open mp4 or vlc formatted videos without using some third party video converter that takes 10 minutes for a 1:30 video. So how do you do it? Is this just something you have to deal with when working with Vegas Pro 15? If my memory serves correct Vegas 12 didn't have this issue.

In the mean time I'll stick to Movie Studio.
EDIT: I've installed MS 15.0 and it also refuses to import MP4 files. Any tips?
