Import of video file cuts off ending

aerowave wrote on 2/17/2018, 1:35 PM

Hi all, wonder if you can help.

I have an issue where I am importing a video file of length 1h 07m 32s - this is an .mp4 file at 24.02fps according to the file properties in Windows Explorer.

When the file is viewed by Movie Edit Pro 2016 Plus, the length becomes 1h 04m 53s, which unfortunately chops off the end of the content. Now it doesn't matter whether this is when the file is being previewed using the little Play icon in the file window, or if the file is dragged to the timeline, it's still the shorter length. Even if I right-click on the video file and choose Object Trimmer, the last frame shows as 1h 04m 53s 11f.

I have tried setting the Movie properties to both 24.02fps, 24fps and letting MEP automatically adjust it upon import - although this 'detects' a frame rate of 25fps. Does anyone know why MEP is not getting the whole video? It plays fine in another player.

My version of MEP is 15.0.0.73 (UDP3). My system is an Intel Core i5 7600K, 16GB RAM, plenty of HDD/SSD space, GTX 1080 graphics (which unfortunately I can't use for exporting!!).

Many thanks!

Hi

. . . . MEP is 15.0.0.73 (UDP3) . . . .

You are missing several updates - the last update for Movie Edit Pro 2016 was 15.0.0.114.

. . . . video file of length 1h 07m 32s - this is an .mp4 file at 24.02fps according to the file properties in Windows Explorer. . . . . MEP automatically adjust it upon import - although this 'detects' a frame rate of 25fps . . . .

We need more information about the video than Windows explorer can provide - use MediaInfo to analyse the clip and copy and paste the results from the Text view of the program into your reply.

. . . . Does anyone know why MEP is not getting the whole video? . . . .

The framerate of 24.02 fps and MEP's detection of 25 fps would suggest that the video clip has a variable framerate, however the MediaInfo information will give us more information about the video file and hopefully offer a solution.

I see that there is indeed a variable frame rate on this file. I will try forcing a fixed frame rate and see what happens.

Just converted the video file to a fixed 25fps and it has imported correctly. Thank you again for your help.
