Imported videos are missing last few minutes of file

I am using Movie Edit Pro 2015 with all available updates.  When I import a video, the last portion of the file is missing.  This happens to several files, and the amount of missing video varies.  I have a video file that is 1h 58m 31s long, but the imported file in MEP stops at 1h 53m 40s (4 minutes 51 seconds missing).  Another file is 23m 05s long, but imported file stops at 21m 25s (1 minute 40 seconds missing).  This doesn't appear to happen with other, shorter videos.

Hi, what exact version of Movie Editor Pro are you using, depending on version perhaps turning off the create proxy setting for imported video or if of turn it on might solve the problem, maybe proxy settings are neccesary for importing larger files, I know you imported some smaller ones, but if it is a memory problem and these small  files were still in memory at the same time as other stuff, then perhaps without proxy support the program had no choice, only a suggestion here, as I do not have that problem with a trial of Movie Editor Pro Plus, which has proxy support enabled. Also maybe help if we knew your computers spec.

Hope someone more knowledgable comes to your aid.

Thank you for your reply!  Unfortunately, proxy settings are not a feature of Pro, so there's nothing to turn on or off.

MEP 2015 Version is 14.0.0.176 (UDPP3).

PC has an Intel Core i5-4210M CPU @ 2.60 GHZ processor, 8.00 GB RAM and 64 bit OS (Windows 8.1)

Hi again, your computer is better than mine, but without proxy settings it may not perform as well, whether or not this is causing your problem is another matter.

I think too that the program you are using needs to be patched, if memory serves me right there is a newer version number than yours.

And last, further studying of your problem leads me to wonder, if it is just the timeline calculations that are not matching the length of your video files, you could confirm this by looking over the imported video and ensuring that the actual video its self is actually all there, regardless of what the time duration is telling you.

I am not too sure, but wouldn't importing your video into the editor at an incorrect frame rate result in a mis calculated time line figure. You could check this by looking at the videos properties under windows before importing it, this way you will see the exact frame rate, resolution, duration and format, and then ensure when you are importing it into your editor that you match the frame rate, the other settings should also be matched of course.

Hope this helps some, if you are having trouble editing or playing back your video, then an upgrade may be required so as you can take advantage of proxy settings, they make a world of difference, I could not run this program at all without proxy support.

Thanks, I tried matching the frame rate with no improvement.  And it's not just the calculations that are off, the end of the video is missing, so video abruptly ends in middle of scene.  Of course, when the file is played in other programs such as VLC, the entire video is present.

When I try to update my program through the Help menu, it displays a message that there are no further updates available.  I think I might try re-installing the program again, since I may not have done it correctly the first time.

Hi again, sorry nothing has helped so far, you could try installing, but as you have already done this, I do not know that it will work.

In any event, here is a link to Magix technical support, I suggest you select your area, either america or europe, then select product installation problems, then go to bottom selection which is nothing on the list solved my problem, this will open up a dialog box where you enter your registration detail, email and password, and from there you will be able to explain your situation, make sure you tell them all you have tried including ruling out mis calculated frame rates, and that the actual footage is indeed missing at the end of your clip.

There may be a limitation on the program version you are using that is causing this, and the staff will advise you of this, make sure you ask this question though. As you follow this link, keep looking to the right of the page, you will also see a dialog letting you know whether your product is up to date or if a patch is available.

Hope this helps.

Also, have you tried importing a video that was created by another program, or ripping one off a disc that has not been edited, or downloading a you tube clip, a big one, might be worth seeing if the problem still exists using video you have not edited in any way, or indeed may have created by using either software or perhaps a  hardware like a camera that is not closing / finalising the footage properly.
