Importing M2V files

discburn wrote on 3/23/2019, 7:59 AM

I have some nice 720p 29.97 footage shot some years ago. At the time, I captured it from tape into Avid Liquid and it was saved into a folder as 1 x M2V and 2 x WAV files.

When I import it into VPX6, the Video is longer than the Audio.

My research says that changing the video .M2V extension to .mpg or .mpeg, while perhaps helping the video play back at the right length in various players, won't help the import into an NLE, where the video will invariably play slower than the audio. I've tried all the possible 'extensions' and indeed the 'extra long' video just goes black at times.

The M2V actually plays the right length in Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic.

Is there a way to import it into VPX6 without the extra length? And also, without any quality loss in conversion?

Many thanks in advance,

Seamus

Hi Seamus

I would susp[ect that this topic solution may be the answer to your issue. A MediaInfo analysis of the m2v file would confirm.

Hi John EB,

Thanks for the link. I didn't know VLC could convert files, and I also didn't know Handbrake was free! 😊

I actually found a simple solution while trying out different solutions and pondering a lot! Magix VPX has a checkbox 'Automatically create frame table when importing MPEG'. I did that and next time I dragged in an M2V file, voilá!, the exact same length as the audio files. Horray! What a neat trick. And the manual says it makes editing MPEG files easier.

Brilliant! I'm happy again with my VPX6!
