Don't bother with the MPEG4 shown, it's for the Main Concept CODEC, unless you want it.

Click on the button at the top to get the screen to download the extra content.

What happens if you click on the "Install selection" button?

I agree with @browj2's comment; you don't actually need the Main Concept codec.

Agree with both Jeff and John.

Personally I found it not as good as the MEP version and more difficult to get settings that work. I'm sure it is there for those that have need for it but I'm still wondering who would and what for.

Personally I found it not as good as the MEP version and more difficult to get settings that work. I'm sure it is there for those that have need for it but I'm still wondering who would and what for.

I would want it for the reason that it seems impossible to Export to AVCHD (.mts) 1920x1080 25fps Progressive with AC3 Surround sound using the default Intel encoder, which always defaults to 25fps Interlaced when modifying any of the export templates. My camera records Progressive / 5.1 Surround so I like to export to the same.

Also Software export is much faster than the Intel encoder can achieve using the CPU only, which is useful for members who do not have the advantage of and Intel iGPU.

I find the quality comparable to the Default encoder and the settings are more customisable - like 2 pass and Constant Quality encoding but for most people it is best to stick to the template settings offered.

Note that there is a problem with exporting with Hardware Acceleration with .MP4 templates whereby it appears to encode correctly but the resultant file is zero megabytes. SW exports to .MP4 files work fine.

Hi Peter.

Thank you on the last point. I wondered what was happening and just thought is was useless.

I tried to do a comparison encoding of files a while back going through the footage frame by frame and found the Main concept codec to be wanting on edge definition on about a third of the frames that I could notice on playback but could not put my finger on problem until I did the comparison. I don't think most people would notice but I seem overly sensitive to that type of thing. Possibly down to me having a job in my early years checking film stock on editing tables. I can't stand special effects films on TVs for the same reason although as the years pass and the effects gets better, this is annoying me less.
