Installing MEP 2015 Plus

saxdoctor wrote on 9/25/2014, 6:41 PM

I currently have MEP MX version 18.

I am attempting to install MEP 2015 Plus - the installation "hangs" about two-thirds of the way. Disc is still spinning but nothing happens.

Should I have uninstalled my old version first?  Can these two versions coexist on the same system?

I have made two attempts at installing the new version - did a complete reboot of my Dell Inspiron laptop between attempts.

Any suggestions??

Thanks,

Hi

. . . . Should I have uninstalled my old version first?  Can these two versions coexist on the same system? . . . .

No - different versions can coexist on the same computer providing you accepted the default install folders.

Assuming you have enough free disk space for the install and are not trying to install the software on an external USB hard drive then check that you Antivirus program is not interfering with the install process, if you are installing from disc then disconnect from the Internet and turn off the anti virus program while you install.

Hi

Is your Windows OS 64Bit? MEP2015 is 64bit.

Here's what I've discovered since my original post. My Dell laptop is indeed a 64bit machine. I have another computer (a Dell Optiplex 755) which is a 32bit machine. According to what I've read about the MEP 2015 Plus the disc contains both a 32 AND a 64 bit version. I installed it today on the 32bit machine with no hitches. But on the 64bit laptop it stalls at the same place every time. I ran virus software on the laptop, rebooted numerous times, but to no avail. I'd really like to use the 64bit version since there are some features that are only available on that version. I suppose there could be a glitch on the disc that only affects the 64bit installation. I also suppose there is something about my CD/DVD drive that is causing a problem. It's very frustrating.

I appreciate the input I've received so far. I haven't tried turning off the antivirus software during install yet, so I will do that next.

Thanks again.

OK. I disabled antivirus programs and am getting the same result. Very early in the installation process it says "Creating installation script"

A bar appears below and the green goes quickly from the starting point on the left to about 2/3 of the way across and then stops. It will never move any further. I can still hear my disc drive running. Getting out of this is a problem, too. Task Manager won't shut it down. I have to close everything that I can and then attempt to shut the computer down. A forced shutdown is necessary to get out of it.

Thoughts?

Hi

A couple of longshots: -

  1. if the CD/DVD drive is or the disc is suspect try copying the entire contents of the disc to a folder on your computer and install from the folder - you will need to locate the installer.

If the disc will not copy then either the drive or disc is faulty - more likely the disc if you are not having any other problems with DVD's and the drive.

  2. Try downloading the trial version of MEP 2015 and using the serial number you got with the disc.
