I want to add bass guitar to a video i transferred onto Video Pro X.Its a basement jam from 2004 and the bass guitar is barely coming through. Thanks Dan
Yes you can. Simply create a new track on the timeline, with your original video on tracks one and two, and record your bass guitar in the new track and then export the movie!
BUT, there are all sorts of caveats!
Is VPX able to see/use your audio interface?
Does the interface allow you to use 48kHz?
Does the Record screen in VPX allow you to select that interface as your audio source?
How are you going to ensure that the new bass part exactly matches the timing of the existing one? (That's the really difficult part!)
When you export the finished video, are you going to "remove" the original bass part and if so, how, or are you intending that the new part will simply mask the old one? Whichever, you will have to be very careful about balancing audio levels and checking tuning between the original and the new.
How are you going to ensure that this new part "sounds" as if it was a real part of the original and not something which has been dubbed on later?
Is there any part of the original video which shows the bass and/or bass guitarist in close-up, especially any finger or fret actions? They will be particularly difficult to match, since any discrepancy between what is seen and what is heard will be very obvious to a listener/viewer.
Hi Dan, and sorry Jeff, but I don't think you can.
However, If you export your project as an AVI or WMV file you can load that into a free copy of Magix Music maker along with its soundtrack and add your bass guitar from there in sync to the other audio tracks. You can then mute the other tracks and export the bass track as a wav file to sync back into your MEP project.
While there is no explanation on how to do import a video file into the free version of MMM in the manual it is quite easy.
Simply find the video file you need in the programs file manager and double left click it to load it.
Audio editors that support playing video files are the best programs for this work.
. . . . a video i transferred onto Video Pro X.Its a basement jam from 2004 and the bass guitar is barely coming through . . .
If the video audio track contains other instruments as well as the bass then the answer is no, once mixed down, it is not possible to replace just the bass using VPX.
Not strictly true any more if you mean you can't remove bass that's already there. There are some very clever plugins out there now. I agree it can't be done in VPX but could be done in an audio editor.
Good point, I wonder why it popped up near the top of the new topics/comments - I saw it before Ray answered and ignored it as you were the last to reply.
