is it possible to add a 3rd party audio plugin to movie edit pro 2014 premium?

I have a long dialoguesequence with noisy gaps between actors speaking. I want to gate out the background noise. Audio cleaning affects the actors voices as well as the background noise. Are there any noise gate plugins I can use? And how do I install them?

Hi,

Did you try Audio Cleaning > Noise Reduction > Advanced and then make a sample file of the noisy gaps?

Hi,

Yes. The ones that I use often are eFX Gate and eFX Vocal Strip from Magix.

The solution given by Terry is a good one because if you have a lot of background noise, you want to try to reduce it as well.

Other than the Audio Cleaning part, you can use Music Editor 3 which comes with MEP 2014 Plus/Premium. This is the external editor. Right-click on the audio object (put A/V on separate tracks first Ctrl+H) and you should see "Edit wave files externally." This will open Music Editor 3 if it is in the program settings, and it should be by default.

In Music Editor 3 you will find more and better tools for cleaning the sound.

You can add in a VST effect if you have included it in the VST path options. To add in one, click on the Mastering tab, and you will see a couple of empty toolboxes at the bottom. Click on the popdown arrow and get the VST effect that you want. See below.

I use the gate to remove breathing and aother background noise in dialogue. I dial back the range and play with the threshold otherwise it can also remove or reduce softer speech, and it sounds too sterile with absolutely no sound.

The other one, eFX Vocal Stip has gate, deEsser and compression parameters that can be adjusted in the same tool. This is more versatile than eFX Gate. I obtained these with Audio & Music Lab 2014 Premium which I use rather than Music Editor. AML can do much more.

You can also apply the effect to a track directly in MEP by opening the mixer (M) and adding the effect. Make sure that you have first added the path to the VST's as shown in the first image above.

See below for use with the mixer.

Remember that this will be applied to the track, so make sure that there is nothing else on that track that you don't want the effect applied to.

There are probably other VST's on the market that are less expensive that may work.

HTH.
