Is it possible to download additional ''Audio Effects'' for MEP Plus?

I use MEP Plus to edit videos.

Multiple dozens of the videos unfortunately have wind + road traffic noise in them though, which I need to minimise, but without distorting the audio of the clip (speech).

I use the ''Audio Cleaning'' feature for certain clips (the remove fan noise works well for when a window was left open),
but for the outdoor videos, the ''Remove Wind Noise'' feature doesn't work correctly, just distorts the sound massively, whilst leaving the wind sound still.

The closest solution I've found is to add the ''Wind & Rumbling'' feature, via the AudioEffects tab | But just wondered if there is anyway you can download any additional audio effects to MEP Plus (such as ''Wind & Traffic Noise Filter'')??

A filter to successfully remove wind and traffic noise is highly unlikely to exist, I'm afraid, for 2 reasons.

1 Such noise is broadband, i.e. it contains a very broad range of frequencies. Removing the "noise", as you have discovered, will also remove at least some of the audio you want.

2. Noise Reduction filters work well when the noise is constant e.g. a hum, but they need to be "taught", by the user, what is noise and what is sound. Wind and traffic noise is not constant.

If you wish to really explore this whole subject of Noise Reduction there are products from two companies you might wish to explore: Cedar Audio and iZotope, whose RX and especially RX Advanced I can personally recommend. RX can run as a VST plug in in MEP and VPX. Just make sure you are firmly sitting down when you check the prices!

Hello and thanks.

To be fair the ''Wind & Rumbling Filter'' works decently well, just wasn't sure if ''rumbling'' was code-word for ''traffic'', or if there is another filter available which would be even more specific.

But thanks anyways | I will stick with the ones available, as they are pretty good.

Hi Apollo

I'm somewhat of a beginner here and usually find myself asking the questions, but I would venture the opinion that you've only attempted to use the standard noise filters provided in MEP Plus - which, as you've discovered, do not fit all situations. If you select "Denoiser" and click on "Advanced" in the Audio Cleaning window you can generate a noise sample from the audio clip on the timeline, which can then be used to subtract the noise from the audio on the clip. I can't honestly say it's straightforward as neither the relevant section in the manual nor the instructions in the window are particularly helpful, but once you've cracked it you'll get a good result. (Hint: Find the noise in the clip that you want to eliminate and in the "Advanced" window select "Take noise level from start (of noise)"; then click "Take noise sample". The sample taken is very brief - maybe a fraction of a second. Click "OK" and run the clip again, adjusting the level of noise reduction with the slider on the right hand side until you like the result. If you don't like it, simply repeat the process. You can choose to save the noise sample for future use.)

I tried to do the same thing in the Magix "Audio Cleaning Lab" program, but found the Audio Cleaning effect in MEP to be far more convenient to use - and very effective once I got the hang of it.

Hope you find this useful!

Richard
