Is there a way to randomly create fades between scenes

Assuming I just imported a movie from a DV source and used scene recognition to detect and split scenes into distinct clips (within a movie project).  Is there a quick way for lazy people to create random fades between each scene?  I believe Windows Movie Maker had such a feature. (I am using Movie Edit Pro 2013 Plus).

romrom,

Drag the second clip across to overlap and create the first fade. Next right click on the fade style icon and pick random from the menu.

Easy to do, but you might ask yourself if have ever seen a good film with lots of random fades?

Hi,

I totally agree with Carl's final comment.  The best films and videos use transitions and special effects only to support the story line, not just because they are available.  If you have the right story line and the right clips, simple cuts or dissolves between scenes is usually much better than the really fancy transitions.

Please remember that more is not always better for video editing.  It is often fun to play around with effects just to see that you can create them but final productions usually use transitions that are both simple and and effective.

Good luck with your project!

Hi

If I do as per Carl instruction but I do not get the long window with the "Random transition in the trak"?  I only get a short fade menu.

Please assit

Ferdinand,

I suspect you are clicking on either the first object in your timeline or one that has no overlapping object in front.
