Is there an option to crop everything not covered by the alpha mask?

Hi,

Just wondering if you know a way to configure an alpha mask in a way that the masked object is not shown outside of its mask image? I'm using one of the provided alpha masks but because it has to move on the scene, there are moments where the masked video is appearing outside of the masking image box.

BTW, there is a discrepancy between preview of an alpha mask effect and the final render. I just had it looking perfect on preview and got this effect just on the encoded final video.

Alternatively I need to create a wider mask image and use that one :/ which brings brings up another question - can I mass replace an object wherever it appears in the timeline, i.e I used that mask in 15 cases, how do I replace them all at once?

Cheers,

Kai

P.S. I know I ask a lot of questions. I'm on my path from amateur to semi-pro with this software 😜

Hi

This may happen if the exported video is of a different resolution, and / or different aspect ratio, to the project settings, you should get a warning that object placements may not be as expected.

The issue is that in creating a different sized mask, you may have to not only replace it individually, you can switch the mouse mode to 'exchange' and drag the mask from the media pool on to the existing mask, you may also have to change the position settings because the reference points for positioning are the top left corner of the project (preview window) and top left corner of the mask.

Not in this case, I always have set up my project in 1920x1080, and my export settings are the same.

Aha! I just found another use for the Temp Project Folder in VPX thanks to John EB's method.

For an object that has been inserted multiple times, there is only one entry in the Temp folder. Right-click on the object name in the Temp folder, Select associated objects in movie, and they will all be selected. However, I could not exchange them all in one shot, only one at a time. Maybe there is a way and I'll keep looking. Also, any effects on the objects are removed, so the trick is shortcut - to select the effects and copy to clipboard, exchange all objects one after the other by using Shift+W to go to the next one, then 4 to exchange. Finally, select the new object in Temp folder, right-click, select objects..., Shift+- to paste the effects from the clipboard to all selected objects.

@browj2 - now that's just plain sneaky! I didn't know you could do that (paste effects to all instances that way). Thank you. - Mike -
