LEFT CLICK PROBLEMS

MCK wrote on 11/14/2017, 11:47 AM

HELP!!! Suddenly, when I left-click to select an object within the timelines (audio or video), numerous objects flash yellow; and when I attempt to move the original object, the others move with it. It will not allow me to ungroup them. Can anyone advise, please? Also, when I import anything, it forces its way in between existing objects, rather than appearing below them. I have no idea why any of this is happening.

Hi Mark,

You need to watch my tutorials on basic editing, especially the parts about the 3 mouse modes and the import modes.

You have either set mouse mode for a single track, which highlights and moves all objects to the right of the selected object, or multi-track, which highlights and moves all objects at the right and below right of the selected object. Press on shortcut 6 to get Mouse mode for single object.

Also, for importing, you have switched to insert mode - single-track or multi-track ripple. Reset this by pressing on shortcut 1 for Automatic application.

See the buttons above the timeline. The ones with the 3 ... are opened using a right-click. Best is to watch my tutorials to get a good understanding as to how to use these.

Hi John. While I would love to watch tutorials, I am approaching a deadline for editing a 90-minute film, and simply don't have the time. I have been successfully editing the film for months, and have no idea why the software has gone berserk. It won't even offer to load a project upon opening.

What do you mean by Shortcut 1, etc? Sounds good; would sound better if I understood!

In fact, when the program opens, it immediately freezes. Every time. The only way around this seems to be to select the project and "open with"... but then the other problems start.

Hi

The keyboard shortcuts are:

6 - single object mode - selects one object only

7 - all tracks mode - selects the object you click on and all those to the right on all tracks

8 - single track mode - selects the object you click on and all those to the right on the track that the clicked object is on

ie these buttons shown below - keyboard shortcuts indicated in red:

You also need to read the installed PDF manual - all these are covered in there

Hi Mark,

You problems sound much more serious than just being in the wrong mouse and import modes.

Which patch are you on?

You say that the program freezes upon opening. I presume that this is before you start opening a project, correct?

If so, could there possibly be a corrupt file in the folder in the Import screen that shows up upon opening the program? If there is one and VPX is scanning the folder to make icons, it could possible cause the program to crash. I had this happen to me once, and it was a while before I figured it out.

Has changing the mouse mode and import modes allowed you to continue ok?

Note on import mode - before pressing on 1 (top row of numbered buttons on your keyboard), the shortcut to get into automatic import mode, make sure that nothing is selected in the Import screen or in the Project folder, otherwise it will be imported. To select nothing, click in a blank area of the pertinent window.
