Lighting for a Dull Set-Up

nirvanray wrote on 7/25/2015, 8:47 AM

Dear friends, this question is not directly liked with movie editing.
I am shooting an ad film which shows how a product (egg) makes a man fresh and dynamic.
For the story, I am having two parts with individual lighting set-ups. The first one, I show a dull light set-up and second (after eating the egg), the light changes to bright ones.
Can someone please suggest how do I light the first one (dull part). How do I incorporate the three-point light for the dull set up and use for the sudden change in bright one so that all looks a contrast in the mood as well.
I heard that lighting matters a lot for editing and I dont want to be too dependent on post for a good quality as bad light will make me overdo and create horrible noise.
Thanks for your kind suggestions
Regards.

Hi,

Yup - lighting is probably the most important consideration for recording video.  There is no substitue for configuring great lighting when recording, because trying to fix things post production can be pretty close to impossible, if not impossible.

However, if you are wanting to go the opposite direction, decreasing the quality of the lighting, my recommendation would be to record your entire video using the highest quality lighting setup you can configure, and then decrease the quality post-production in Movie Edit Pro, or whatever product you are using.

You can experiment with setting the color tones to be drab, and/or decreasing the brightness, contrast, etc. to get to the result you like the best.

There are surely many other ideas for this, too, so hopefully, you will get more responses to this post with great suggestions.

Good luck and enjoy!

Hi,

The easy way is to shot all scene using 3 point lighting to obtain the maximum quality video.

The second step using the editing video software to create a semi transparent title to cover entirely the the frame size may 1920 x 1080 may be a rectangle black 90% transparent check the new way for title like a semi transparent  ribbon on TV screen. Naturally you can play with tint.

Also you cab add effect.

Also you can create a rectangle using a paint software and transparency like a png file.

Hi,

This is done using keyframe and Video Effects like Sharpness or blur effect.
