Links Facility Lost.

Richard-Curtis wrote on 4/17/2022, 1:34 PM

Hi All

I have a really trivial but thoroughly annoying problem. Somehow, the "Links" column in the media pool has died and resists all efforts to resurrect it. As I have files all over the place I make (or used to make...) extensive use of the facility. Any way to get it back on my screen again, short of reinstalling the program?

Thanks in advance (I hope...).

Richard

Hi Ray

Thanks - I had tried that and it didn't help. BUT, it's working again now: I had forgotten the folder tree button toggles between links and folders and just rediscovered it while playing around. Oh dear...

Cheers

Hi Richard

I think you will have to reset the program settings back to there default - File, Setting, Reset program to default settings however this will reset all the links you have created.

If you know which link is causing the issue, eg the folder/location no longer exists, then you could try editing (at your own risk) the videodeluxe.ini ( may be called moviestudio.ini or similar) file with Notepad or Notepad++ (my preferred text editor).

the ini file is in

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\program name and version.

A quick way to get to the Appdata folder is to type %appdata%\Magix into the Windows file explorer as shown below

The links should be in the [ExplorerV3_Tab0] section and are in 2 parts, eg this is the link to a folder on my PC

DC_USER_BUTTON_00100_TEXT=ScreenCast recordings
IDC_USER_BUTTON_00100_PATH=fs::W:\MAGIX\DVD_BD_Projects\Screencast-O-Matic\Recordings\

As always ensure you backup the ini file before editing

Ray, I've realised that I was being a little hard on myself in my earlier response to you. I must have hit that folder tree button twenty times - including after restarting the program and then rebooting my PC - all without result. The links appeared again after I had shut down for an hour and then restarted the PC after reading your comment. It looks like a spurious glitch and hopefully won't happen again.

Thanks, John. With a bit of luck I won't need to drill into this problem again, but I'll know where to look if and when I do!

Cheers

Richard

Hi Richard.

I didn't take it that way so don't worry. 😉

It may depend on just how many links you have. I tend to just have links to folders of years and take it from there.

I think a lot depends on individual workflow. There is no wrong or right as long as it works. Glad to see you get it working again.

Ray.
