Version 19.0.2.49

Computer: i5 3.40GHz, 32 GB ram, SSD drive,

GPU: Asus DirectCU II - Strix - GeForce GTX970 (4GB)

I really think Magix and myself are coming to the end of the line. after almost 20 years, I've had enough of their games.

This latest one is clearly because i've ignored their constant nags to upgrade to 2020 version.

So what happens? Every time i load the program the screen is there within 3/4 seconds. However, Magix itself is inaccessible for almost 2 minutes!

Additionally It takes ages before my downloaded content is visible too!

There must be some way to disable the online network comms that halts everything. You shouldn't have to wait 2 minutes to access a program - and Magix is the only software I have that does this.

Hi Martin.

Try leaving the program open without doing anything for a few minutes. Then use the update section of the program to update to the latest patch which is 19.0.2.58. This should help speed up the store content loading and help prevent the freezing you are experiencing. It may take a few runs before it settles down and it did have something to do with the way the store content was being loaded in your current version. But once everything is loaded correctly it should not be a problem. The other thing is once you have finished with the program don't shut down your machine for quite a while. According to John EB MEP for the first few times it is run will be doing a lot of background housekeeping after MEP is shut down and if interrupted will start from scratch all over again the next time you initiate MEP.

A bit of a pain at first I'll admit but it should settle down to a normal experience.

so to get 19.0.2.58 will cost me £60?

@martin-brennan

They can give that impression 😆. But the last patch was due to the amount of complaints of what you are experiencing so at least someone is listening even if sometimes it takes a while for patches to be applied.

Personally I'm not a 'fan boy' of any particular product and try to be as neutral as possible but as I think you have found, some things just don't gel with consumers and are left wondering what they were thinking when they did certain things. But they try to survive in a competitive market and protect their intellectual property rights as best they can. If the majority of people were honest, the rest of us probably wouldn't suffer as much as we do.

I hope things settle down at your end for you.

@martin-brennan

The latest release of MEP is indeed 19.0.2.58. If you are not offered the option to update to this version it must be because your Update Service has expired. This service runs for 12 months from the date on which you last made a purchase of MEP or last renewed your Update Service.

It is my experience that, as a user, I receive email reminders about the impending end of my Update Service, the first of these often appearing in my Inbox anything up to two or three months before the actual date. Did you receive these reminders? If so, presumably you decided to not renew.

One further thing to consider: if you do renew your Update Service you will almost certainly get the next major release (version 20.x.x.xx) whenever it is released, possibly later this year.

Hi Martin.

The easiest way to see if you can update is just to open MEP and go to Help / Update on line. If your program is within a year of your subscription you will get a box asking you to update your program. Sometimes the blasted box appears behind the MEP program. Just click the icon on the task bar to bring it to the foreground. You can update from there.

Hi Martin.

Although strictly not a subscription service program as such (Because your use of the program doesn't discontinue after your support time runs out) I think a lot of companies that don't run subscription based programs have now adopted this model of purchase. It does differ in one respect in that with some other programs I have where I can download all updates and add ons that come within a particular release until the next official Upgrade of the product arrives.

It's confusing to be sure. With Magix if for instance your computer went down and you didn't keep a copy of the program on another hard drive somewhere to reload. You would have to go to your online account to download the program again and you would only get the program that you bought at the time with no subsequent updates if you are out of your subscription period. Subscription is normally kept at the same price as their best discount prices or maybe £10 lower. It varies.

On the other hand it's still cheaper than my monthly internet bill or yearly Pro Flickr account.

With my other programs that allow me to have full access to all the updates between upgrades, the main difference is they are over four times the price of MEP to purchase in the first place but I can skip upgrades until such time a I want them and still get a reduction below the full price of buying that program again, although that reduction reduces each generation of the programs development I miss.

@emmrecs Hi Jeff and Ray

my point isn't about whether I can continue to update without charge - i chose not to. On principle. because the last update i received - 19.0.2.49 cripples the program, and they have the nerve to charge £60 to get it fixed via 19.0.2.58.

In the real world if you supply something broken a fix should be free.

Unfortunately, since you admit you chose and are continuing to choose not to renew your Update Service there is no solution to your problem, sorry.

Hi

. . . . i've ignored their constant nags to upgrade to 2020 version . . . . my version 19.0.2.49 - is (i believe) part of 2018 or 19. . . . .

You are already using MEP 2020.

The MEP versions are :

2018 is 17.0.x.x, last patch - 17.0.3.148

2019 is 18.0.x.x, last patch - 18.0.3.261

2020 is 19.0.x.x, initial version 19.0.1.23, 19.0.2.49 was a major update to 2020, see here for what was fixed, and why the start-up may be long. The latest patch is 19.0.2.58 which you will not get as you have not renewed your Update Service.

. . . . Computer: i5 3.40GHz . . . .

What is the full i5 number - you have omitted the 4 digit model identifier?

I have MEP Plus 2020 and I'm still on version 19.0.1.23 on my Surface Pro 4. My service update did not expire until September 2020. After continuous reminders to update my service, I went ahead and extended my Update Service which is now does not expire until September 2021. My MEP Plus is still on 19.0.1.23 and I continue to receive the reminders to upgrade to 2020 with Update Service. My Surface Pro 4 has an Intel Core i7-6650 CPU @ 2.20GHz processsor with 16 GB RAM. BTW, I recently installed MEP plus to an older Dell Laptop and it automatically updated to the latest patch 19.0.2.58. This Dell has a Intel Core i7 2760 QM CPU @ 2.40 GHz with 8GB RAM. I don't know what is going on, but this is very frustrating. Any recommendations? I've considered uninstalling and reinstalling MEP Plus to see if this would resolve the problem.

Hello John,

I have tried the manual update numerous times but as I mentioned previously, I only received options to update to 2020 version with the accompanying update service. I did send a support request to MAGIX regarding my problem. I just received a link from MAGIX to manually update my version. I am now at version 19.0.2.58. Hopefully, this will reset my system and I'll continue to receive notifications if any new updates are released. Thanks for your help
