Hello, I am very new to this software and am already running into difficulty in importing my first video files from my GoPro. I had successfully used GoPro Studio however I am having some issues with this software. The tutorial and online instructions do not cover what I am experiencing on the actual software so I am requesting some help so I can proceed.

If there is anyone within this community who is able to provide some assistance that would be marvelous. Specifically I need to identify what video source file to use. I have attached my GoPro to my PC but am unable to locate a file in which there are actual video files whenever I select GoPro or similar files from the drop down menu. The drop down menu provides two choices; HERO5 Black\GoPro MTP Client Disc Volume which produces an error message - The Parameter is Incorrect. The other drop down choice is "select own folder". This is where my problem lies. I don't know what folder to choose because none seem to work and always produce an error message of one type or another.

Please help. Thank you for your thought and consideration of my sincere request for help with this.

Cheers

Hi Eric,

There is a note at the top of the forum to notify the programme version you are using and details of your computer and OS, which helps with understanding the problems you are having. However, I am unsure of what procedure you are using for downloading files from your GoPro. Are you trying to download the files directly into MEP, or trying to download from the GoPro to a file on your hard drive? with every version of Magix that I have used, I have always downloaded camera files directly to the computer memory first. I don't have a GoPro Hero 5, but for my Hero 3 and other sports cams, I plug the camera in via usb, or remove the micro SD card and put it into a usb reader. I then search the card for the DCIM folder where the video files usually are, or if you filmed in AVCHD they may be in an AVCHD folder and a sub folder named 'stream'. The video files are simply dragged and dropped into a new folder that you create on your PC then you can use the import tab in MEP to locate the folder and view the files to drag onto the timeline.

Hi Eric,

I just got a GoPro Hero 5 myself and have been playing with it and the files.

You mention GoPro Studio. I suggest that you install GoPro Quik for desktop (I couldn't find Studio), connect the GoPro and import the media to your hard disk. When you turn on the GoPro once connected, you'll see the following screen in Quik:

Click on the gear at the top right, and change the folder location. Then click on the "Add new" button to import the files from the GoPro.

You can change the destination folder in Quik under Settings, to be what you want. My files are saved to an external drive. By default, GoPro creates subfolders at that location by date, so I have 2018-033-20 as a folder, then HERO5 Black 1 as a subfolder (I'm trying to figure out how to skip that one) and then the files are placed under it.

Here is an example of the files:

GOPR0040.MP4
GOPR0041.JPG
GOPR0042.JPG
GOPR0043.JPG
GOPR0044.JPG
GOPR0075.MP4

Once there, in MEP, I can go to the Media pool, Import and find the files and import what I want.

On the GoPro, until you are familiar with everything, I suggest that you use 1080 as the resolution, 30 fps, and FOV = Linear.

Once you get this far, let us know if you need more help.

Thank you both. Roger, you are right. There was a spot where I was to have put my specific information which I did not do as you have discovered. My PC is a Dell Inspiron 17 7000 series. Unfortunately I do not know what version of MEP I am running although I just upgraded it last week. I was following along in the tutorial provided by MEP which advised to connect my camera directly to the pc without downloading the data in a file on my PC. I will follow your advise and download the content to a folder on my pc which is what I did when I used GoPro Studio. Many thanks for your rapid reply to my request for help. I am quite confident that I will ask other questions again as I climb the learning curve with this new software.

Thank you John. GoPro Studio was their movie editing and publishing software that they no longer use. I appreciate your suggestion regarding the camera settings. I have been using my camera for over a year with some really cool videos captures. I am just experiencing some difficulty with the Movie Edit Pro software. I really appreciate your rapid reply to my query for assistance. I am sure there will be additional cries for help as I learn this new software.

Cheers!

Hi Eric,

Look under Help, About to see the version number. Also, let us know if you have the Plus or Premium version. It will say which one at the top left of the screen, like mine says "Move Edit Pro Plus."

I have published a few tutorials on getting started in MEP and Basic Editing 1 and 2 that you may find helpful.

Here is the first one:
