Magix 2015 freezes for a few seconds when scrubbing timeline with large video file.

ChayHawk wrote on 7/16/2015, 2:08 AM

I have 7 hours of gameplay footage that i need to edit (11.4 GB) but when i load it into magix and try to scrub through the timeline it will move the marker to the position i click then freeze for like 4 or 5 seconds then continue, it keeps doing that and i need this footage edited. I used the H.264 Nvidia Encoder instead of the MJPEG one that i always use but that shouldnt be the issue right? I've loaded files much much larger than this into magix without problems before (upt to 50GB) so what could be the problem? I tried Proxy files but that did nothing.

EDIT: I just tested out some old gameplay footage that was 6 hours and 50 mins and the file was 17 GB and i could scrub throught that just fine. Could it be the .mp4 format? or the way it was encoded? I usually record in MJPEG which gives me an .avi file, then i import it into magix and export it as .mp4 so it will reduce file size but that is making the video quality bad so im trying to use a different codec.

Still cant seem to figure this out, please help.

Hi

MJPEG should be easier for MEP to handle being a less complex and compressed codec than H.264. Having said that, I can not understand why the proxy option does not give you better results as the MXV format the proxy files use is similar to MJPEG in this respect.

What is the spec of your computer and what is the reported RAM and CPU usage in Task manager when you see this problem and what is the difference you see when using the 2 different codecs?

Prehaps analyse the 2 differently encoded files with Media Info (TM) and post the Text analysis here. H264 should give a higher quality image for the same or lower Bitrate / File size compared to MJPEG, if it is used as the capture file codec.

It keeps telling me an error occured when trying to post.

Hi, Scenestealer, I thought that might be the problem. My Computer specs are:

Windows 8.1

12 GB RAM

2 GB VRAM

NVIDIA GTX 765m

Intel i7 @ 3.4 GHZ

As for CPU Usage it is around 19.3% but fluctuates from 17-19%, it uses around 431 MB of ram.

As for media info, the file im having trouble with is here: http://pastebin.com/ZJjJNbLF

And here is the GTA 5 one that is 7 hours in length, close to the other one. This one is in MJPEG format.

Hi ChayHawk

Your computer spec doesn't look as though it will be causing any problem and the quite low CPU and RAM usage do not indicate there is a resource problem either.

Looking at the Media Info data I am a little confused because the second file you say is MJPEG does not indicate this so is this a file that has been converted into MP4 in MEP or some other converter?

The only thing that stands out about the first file that you say you are having the trouble with is that it seems to have a variable frame rate. This could be why MEP does not like it and I think I have seen people having similar problems with these files. Not sure what the solution is other than re encoding MJPEG perhaps to MJPEG or MXV first at a constant frame rate then to a more compressed format like MP4.

What program are you using for the capture?

Hi, I tried re encoding the .mp4 file with hand brake and it seems to work just fine. However i noticed that the video file was shorter than the audio files for some reason. and yes i believe the second file was converted to .mp4 now that i think about it.

Hi

From the MediaInfo data I think the problem you are having is due to the mp4 video being encoded with a variable frame rate whereas the mpg is in constant bitrate mode

You can check this by looking at the re-encoded version which works using MediaInfo.  This could also be why the audio is slightly off. I would estimate the audio is off by about 8 - 14 secs by the end of the video
