Magix Edit Pro 16hd: wont play media files

When I try to play my avchd files or MP4, i get a message: "Waveform output device 'none' cant play format. Reason: A device ID has been used that is out of range for your system"  Im on a new computer and just finished going through setup and downloading activation codes for the codecs...i have a brand new HP Envy tower running Windows 8.1 and its plugged into my flatscreen tv gping from Dvi on the computer to Hdmi on the tv.

Hi

MEP 16HD is not compatible with Windows 8.1, you may also find that it does not recognise your DVD burner.

Time upgrade to a Windows 8 compatible version.
