Magix MEP Version Compatibility

CarpentersMate wrote on 5/15/2019, 3:19 PM

Hi Gang

It was pointed out that newer (later) versions of Magix MEP can 'OPEN' older projects from older-earlier versions. Can I open a project created in 'MEP 2013 Plus' using 'MEP 2016 Plus' and expect the 'later program' to utilize its newer software to export and render that project (more efficiently) using the 'Preview Window' that can be cancelled at any time?

OR

Will that older project revert back to processing rendering according to its earlier/previous software characteristics?

Thank You

@CarpentersMate

It should use improvements in the newer software for Timeline Preview and Export but you may need to be careful that any plugins from the earlier 32 bit 2013 versions may not be available in the newer 2016 64bit version.

Best is to try it - "Save as" your project in 2013 giving it a different name then open it in 2016 - any problems should trigger pop up warnings where you might be able to point to different .exe's or folder paths, or click "ignore" or "do not show again", and see what loads.

Thanx Scenestealer - Yes I'll give it a try fer sure - These 'Plug Ins' you're talking about - would they be 'additional-extra' installations/plug ins, or part of the actual original installation of 'MEP 2013 Plus' ? As for extra 'Plug Ins' (aside from MP4 Codec) I have NONE and don't intend to install any ... Thank You ...

Hi

Yes, if you have not bought any yourself then they would be from "additional extra installation / plug ins" or "additional programs" from installations of MEP versions up to MEP2015.

@CarpentersMate

Occasionally, Magix has included some plugins with MEP Plus, as a special deal.

I use plugins often. The most important one for me is one that has never been provided by Magix, Neat Video. Given that you work with old video material, I would have thought that this would be one that you would want to get.

So, why don't you want any plugins?

Hi John CB

Nice to see you again. As mentioned my needs are minimal for what I'm doing right now until I settle on a 'workable path.' Part of the reason is due to my current limited processor capability. Same reason for choosing MEP 2013 Plus & MEP 2016 Plus (working out fine), since the additional features only slow things down. My main systems are the Mac Pro Desktops. But Magix is a great way to get some of this archival footage uploaded expeditiously until I re-locate. At some point I'll give some 'Plug Ins' a try. BTW thanx for sharing your knowledge and participation regarding archival footage restoration. I tried a touch of that with this piece which was totally sillent (aside from narration) : http://www.ww2survivorstories.com/111-SFR-9.mp4 (working on another)

Thanks Again!
