Magix Movie Edit Pro 2013 Plus keeps on freezing up

jak.willis wrote on 7/8/2014, 6:29 PM

I have been using Magix Movie Edit Pro 2013 Plus for a long time now and have never had trouble with it as far as freezing up is concerned. Now, for some unknown reason, the whole program KEEPS ON freezing up literally every 5-10 minutes and stays frozen for about 5-7 minutes. It just suddenly started happening a few weeks ago and have not yet found an answer to it. I would like to get something done about it though as it is most frustrating as you can imagine. As I am editing my videos I have to keep on pausing myself while the program freezes up for like 10 minutes.

With this problem, I am also having to wait about 6-10 minutes to save my project and just to close the program! It is ridiculously frustrating that i must wait this long just to close down the program even. Some help on why this is happening and now to rectify it would be much appreciated. My computer system is Windows 7 Home Preimum if it is any help.

Hi,

Sounds grim!

I assume you've done the usual basic stuff: rebooting, minimising other programs loaded, restoring MEP default settings?

Have you tried an appropriate system restore to a state pre-dating the problem? That would be my priority next step.

Failing the above I'd be considering re-installing MEP. But first I'd see if I could get any clues about what the computer is doing during these long inaccessible periods. I'm guessing Task Manager won't tell you much, so if you have Procmon from SysInternals I'd do some work with that. It should help you isolate the processes and/or files being accessed by your PC. That in turn might identify some obscure conflict.

Hi

In addition to Terry's answer - the symptoms your PC is showing are also typical of browser addons, adware and spamware and some 'antivirus' programs / scanners trying to access the Internet and not being able to do so or 'fighting' each other as they try to carry out a scan or connect to the Internet.

Check that you have no 'extras' installed on your computer, - use a good spyware removal program such as Microsoft Safety Scanner..

Which Antivirus and Antispyware programs are you using?

HTH

I have tried re-setting to the original settings but that doesn't help. And now though the freezing seems to be getting worse. Today it is worse than ever. It is literally freezing up every ten seconds now. I am a bit reluctant to un-install and re-install the whole program as I'm in the middle of some projects right now and don't want to lose them.

I am using AVG 2014 for antivirus and i think it's Windows Defender for antispyware.

Only problem there is i can't remember the exact date it first started happening

What's stopping you trying each SR, either sequentially backwards or narrowing it down by going back significantly to start with and then homing in? You can simply restore the current status at any time. So what do you have to lose?
