Magix Movie Edit Pro 2016-17 Review

MAGIX MOVIE EDIT PRO REVIEW:

Pros
Lots of video effects. Multicam. Good titling tools. Trailer-like movie templates. Solid audio editing tools. Strong disc authoring, with more than 100 templates. Motion tracking. 4K file support.

Cons
Not much help with difficult procedures. Lacks import especially when it comes to mkv files with the h.264 codec which is popular and and is a soure point with editors who use that file extention and can't in this program, in fact the software advertises that mkv files can be imported but so far the program dose not at best it lacks what type of mkv files it dose import, so far many editors have not been able to import any mkv files. There are Extra costs and coded and dreaded downloads for some video formats. When it comes to rending in Quicktime MOV with H.264 it only renders 2 seconds of video, Also for some reason when importing video, videos seem to be darker then the original and it also renders dark, why?
The rendering speeds have improved slightly but not by much, a 2hr. feature takes approx. 5 to 8 hrs to render out, that's not very good.

Bottom Line
Magix Movie Edit Pro 2016-17 Plus/Premium is loaded with effects and supports 4K, 360-degree content, and multi-cam editing. The software's render speeds have improved, but it's not as pleasant to use as the best of the video editing competition.

You should at least tell us which version you are talking about. There is no version "2016-17 Plus/Premium".

And whether or not you are talking about the trial version. It has limitations on export.

Not much help with difficult procedures? Such as? I find that most people don't read the manual.

If you are intending to publish this somewhere else, I suggest that you correct the spelling.

Rendering speeds depend many factors, and especially the use of effects and plugins. Do you have a proper comparison tests, including hardware specs, file formats, etc. Compared to which other programs in the same consumer category?

Etc.

Hi,

The difference betwen Magix VDL and the competition like Pinnacle Studio 20 and probably Cyberlink is about same level and performance. Probably Magix is easier to use than competition software the weak side is probably the help menu and manual. The main advantage of Pinnacle is the video training offer by Paul Holtz initially Class on Demand but training is limited to 15 days free after you have to pay the same price about the software cost... No bargain you double your cost to receive the same product. This hard to beat Magix for beginner and prosumer.

This is my point of view.

YR

The editor does render videos to dark, WHY and why has Magix not fix or updated its import on mkv files that use h.264 codecs?

browj2 wrote on 6/10/2018, 2:31 PM

Can you give us some examples, including your computer and OS specs, version of MEP, and the specs of the files that you are using? My videos do not come out dark.

Can you post to Dropbox or equivalent some short mkv (h.264) files that we can test?

@awesomeartdigital

. . . . import on mkv files that use h.264 codecs . . . .

The MKV file format is a container file, similar to MP4, and MEP will import the file correctly if the video and audio codecs are installed on your PC.

Can you import a mp4 file which contains h.264 encoded video?

Do you get any error messages when trying to import a MKV file?

In addition to John CB's request, please analyse one of the MKV files that will not import with MediaInfo and post the results from the Text view in MediaInfo.

I did not mean that there was a 2016/17 version I mean in BOTH the 2016 and the 2017 versions separate versions. As for the mkv files it's Matroska version 2 format AVC Codec ID MPEG4/ISO/AVC x264 Audio codec AAC Magix never opens it nor import will work, as for imported videos they export dark, don't know why and I am now using the 2019 version and still exports dark and I have no problems in another editing software. The Quicktime MOV export even when I click on Best for quality the out come is crappy resolution, 1080p looks horrible the only exports that retains the HD and clean clear renders are AVI Largareth codec and Uncompressed AVI which produces a very large file but using Handbrake will compress very well with out resolution loss. The bottom line is that Magix has its problems that have yet to be resolved.

I have been using various Magix editing software for many years professionally and currently use VPX10. I have never had exports coming out dark in any version and would suggest that you are doing something seriously wrong in your exports. I probably spend at least 30 hours per week editing with VPX and would not be able to use it for clients if it behaved as you suggest. I film in 4k, edit in 4k and export to 1080 mp4 and my clients are delighted with the clarity and detail.

As this is a user to user help forum and not a Magix support site, I am not sure why you are posting as your comments seem to consist of unfounded criticisms, rather than the usual requests for help from fellow users. If you would like help with some of your problems, I would suggest that you answer the questions asked by the other posters, to receive a more positive response.

This topic was started in December 2016, resurrected by the OP in June 2018 and again in June 2019!

It is clear that the OP has what @RogerGunkel quite correctly describes as

unfounded criticisms

i.e., not ones which fellow-users can reproduce or identify with, it seems.

In order to not prolong this discussion I have now closed this thread.
