Magix Movie Edit Pro Continuously Crashes

Watzas wrote on 6/23/2014, 4:39 PM

I just bought this software on Friday. I have tried using this past weekend with no success (what i would consider success). The program has crashed about 80% to 90% of the time I have used it. More half of the issues it gives me "Out of Memory" error,  other times it freezes up and I have to go into task manager to get the program closed, and other times I get a crash and it reboots and then gives me a crash message (I report) but then freezes or runs out of memory.

I have tried running in Admin Mode (it seemed to reduce the chances of crashes). I have reinstalled (didn't really solve anything). The MAGIX News Center has nothing about updates.

I have also run into issues when the program wasn't crashing with the audio files (maybe this is what is causing some kind of error). My audio is choppy, certain parts are completely silent when the waveform shows otherwise (half the time the waveform thing would crash the program).

The files I am using are from ShadowPlay (screen captured from video gaming). Resolution is 1920x1080 with FPS around 40-60. (the framerate isn't constant all the time). Audio is recorded through the same system; there are no specifications listed through ShadowPlay. It overlays the Audio onto the video file so when i upload into MAGIX the first thing i try to do is split the audio/video onto different tracks.

I am pretty upset. I tried the trial and not had any problems. I have been using lightworks before but i needed to either purchase that one (can't export to computer file only upload to internet with free version). My friend uses this and has never had any issues so I don't quite understand what is really going on here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated otherwise i'll be returning later this week or earlier next week.

Hi

. . . . FPS around 40-60. . . . .

Variable framerate in a continuous clip could be the problem.

Try the program with regular video ie constant FPS and see if it crashes then.

Hi

Which version of MEP are you using? Check you are on the latest patch for that version via: Top menu > Help > Online update

Have you tried other video clips from another source with a constant frame rate? I have been replying to another post where they are getting crashes in MEP2013 when using variable frame rate smartphone videos. http://www.magix.info/us/i-have-2013-on-two-computers-both-crashes.knowledge.1093949.html Please follow the suggestions there.

Make sure you have "Wave Driver" selected in the first Tab of "Program settings" as this uses less memory than Direct sound.

Splitting the Audio onto another track has little effect on memory usage.

Make sure you have an ample sized Page File set up in Windows > Virtual Memory. Even though you have 16GB of RAM installed MEP can only access less than 4GB being a 32Bit program. MEP uses the virtual memory for caching during preview.

MEP 2014 and I am updating now (the manual pointing me in a different direction so thanks)>

I have tried both Wave Driver and Direct Audio. Its crashed equally with both of those. I have updated the software and am testing it out. I will report back later to see how it is handling. I will also try to get a constant framerate video and try that.

I have ran all the videos i was having audio issues with, so far those are gone.

thank for the help; If something changes I'll post back up here but the tests i have run on the files i had issues with earlier seem to be gone. The program seems a lot more stable.
