Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium not displaying correctly

Fractured_Chaos wrote on 6/5/2021, 4:07 PM

I'm attempting to use Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium 2021, but the whole thing is not displaying right. I can't even access the tracks, or anything. It's just the preview screen and the FX folders (screenshots added below). I have checked every drop-down menu and can't find how to change the work area. I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything (rebooting the computer each time). It doesn't even have a tab at the top to close, minimize, or enlarge the work area. I have to close it from the toolbar down at the bottom of my desktop. I just bought it yesterday, and haven't been able to play with it at all.

I have Windows 10 Home, 64-bit, v. 1909

I have 12 GB RAM, an i7-6500U @ 2.5GHz (no idea how many cores)

My Device Manager states I have both Intel HD Graphics 520 and NVIDIA GeForce 940MX -- Not sure what to make of that. I'm probably just not savvy enough -- yet.

Screencaps for the app came in two parts, and I don't have an app that would meld them together into one single image, so my apologies for that. But what you see? That's all I get.

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.

Try pressing f9.

If that doesn't work try pressing the small square in the top right hand corner of the section shown in your second image.

Well, making progress, I guess? I hit F9 and a grey box appeared over the black screen, and I actually had a menu bar at the top for importing the files and accessing the FX. But I clicked outside the grey box, and it disappeared. I tried the expand button in the upper right corner of the tree, and the menu bar disappeared. I couldn't figure out how to bring it back, so I closed the app, and opened it again. The menu bar returned, but no menus.

I expected a learning curve, but not one just to open the software, LOL. But I refuse to give up. It's personal now.

It's not deliberate... 😂

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

I know it's not. LOL. But I am not going to let a bit of software defeat me. Grrrr. 😅

And... interesting problem -- the drop-down menus disappeared for awhile when I f9'd (and I failed at getting a screenshot of that, sorry). Holding the key down, I was able to see that it was hiding behind a secondary menu. That was the only way I knew (it was out of frustration that I just held the key down; assuming that if I was insistent enough, it would do what I demanded -- of course this doesn't work on people, so why would I even think it would work on software?). Weirdly enough, fiddling around with it, and making the preview screen fill the desktop, then putting it back to what it was, revealed the drop-downs. Followed your instructions and....

Nothing.

This is probably a stupid question, but would downloading and installing the trial version, first, cause this? I mean, the trial version was exactly like this, and I assumed the serial code would clear it up? Okay, I know that sounds stupid. Hardware, I'm good with. I could build you a screaming gaming computer blindfolded and drunk. Software? Not so much.

AAProds wrote on 6/5/2021, 11:48 PM

@Fractured_Chaos

Annoying!

I don't think the the trial version is this messed up. They might be trying to scare you off!

Here's something else you can try (you'll lose any folder links you set up on the Import tab):

Hi.

Do you have any Windows scaling options on? For text or anything else for easier viewing?

It's just that your text and icon boxes are much larger than mine when I open Movie Edit pro and it looks like you are at twice the viewing level and only getting a quarter of the whole view.

Here is a desktop view of my left hand monitor for comparison.

Also what is your screen resolution?

Ray.

Hi

From the Nvidia GPU model this would indicate that this is a laptop is this correct?

There has been a change in the way the F9 keyboard shortcut works - it does not set the MEP 2021 panes back to the Standard arrangement (default), which has no keyboard shortcut, it reverts the last saved layout when you previously closed the program and enable a faster reset to that layout if you change a pane size or remove one while editing.

As you have the menus - select Window, Window Arrangement, Standard - this will reset the panes to their default (as installed) layout.

If this fails - then close MEP and using File Explorer in the address bar type %appdata% as shown below and press enter

Open the folder Magix, Videodeluxe27_premium and delete the videodeluxe.ini file

Start MEP.

Day off, so I slept in. Nice to wake up to see more help. I appreciate y'all! I'ma gonna try each thing, one at a time, and give you my results. And my apologies if I give y'all too much detail. I figure too much is better than not enough.

First, @AAProds

I hadn't yet imported any files, so no problem there. Bad news is, when I opened the app up, the drop-down menus were missing. Again. Doing what I did last time? Didn't work. Good news? I got a screenshot of it this time.

I messed around with it for a bit, since now I know the drop-downs are hidden behind a secondary menu. So I tried just resizing each element. This is the result:

While playing around, I did find my audio and store tabs, so there's that. And I was also able to uncover my drop-downs, so did as you suggested. Nothing changed.

Also, this keeps popping up every time I open the app. I've already downloaded and installed everything on the list:

On to the next suggestion...

That is an easy one to fix, assuming you get the dialogs showing, see this comment.
