Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium UNUSABLE Since Update! Please Help!

jerancampy22 wrote on 2/28/2018, 4:30 PM

I have been a faithful Magix user for 4 years and have really enjoyed the latest, Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium however since the update two days ago, my entire program has been useless. I can open old videos or begin new ones but within 5 minutes the program crashes. Reminds me of the old Pinnacle days. What has happened? The program was 98% sturdy but now it ios unusable and I need it fixed. It is definitely since the update.

Here are two screen shots from the last two crashes...

As you can see, I was trying to work on gb-01 and it crashed, then i started a new project on reopen called newtest and it crashed before I put anything on the timeline.

Please help me troubleshoot this issue!

@jerancampy22

I would strongly suggest you open a Support ticket on this here since the severity of this problem means it is unlikely to be one that we fellow-users can hope to really assist with.

Greetings,

I've had this problem with MEP 2018 since mid January 2018. The computer crashed / restarted at random times, but always with MEP loaded and/or in use. If I had hair it would be torn out by now.

MEP worked (usually) without the computer crashing when I had compatibility mode selected, which was not very good for some of the work I do.

After much Googleing(?), I found that Nvidia gaming users were having similar problems starting from the driver release dated 8th January 2018. I'd already updated my driver to the two January versions and indeed the later version in Feb 2018 - the same version that you have.

I rolled my drivers back to the version before all this started, version "388.59-desktop-win10-64bit" dated 20 December 2017 (CUDA 23.21.13.8871) and I've not looked back since. As I don't game, these "older" drivers work very well, including hardware acceleration in MEP.

Nvidia have the archive driver on their driver support page. Try driver package 388.59, it may sort your problem, There seems nothing to lose anyway.

@jerancampy22

If you look at the dll list you have posted - it is missing the video encoding nvcuvid.dll this is because the NVidia driver has been updated possibly via a Windows update.

As AndyW has quite rightly said you need to roll back the driver.

I suspect the driver info given was taken from the Nvidia control panel. It doesn't show every single item as does device manager/display adapters/NVidia...

@me_again

Hi Andy

. . . . I suspect the driver info given was taken from the Nvidia control panel. . . . .

Very true, when I checked my NVidia control panel it is the same, I normally use AIDA64 for, among other things, analysis of driver versions.

However the build numbers (last 4 digits) suggest that the installed driver( xx.xx.xx.9077) is a later version that does not have the nvcuvid.dll present as you have found for your graphics card ie CUDA xx.xx.xx.8871 or for my card on my old PC CUDA xx.xx.xx.8813.

Thanks

John EB

Okay thanks a lot gentlemen. Let me try that. It directly coincided with the latest Magix update and I make videos for a living so I use Magix everyday. It truly is an amazing editor to be honest but I feel it is very close to being perfect. @me_again did I hear you correct? You get Hardware Acceleration?

Andy can you help me out here. I wanted to see what you were referring to here because yes, the list was compiled from the Nvidia control panel. So, I went device manager/display adapters/nvidia but then what? Seems you were saying I should see a list of some type after this step but I just see the GPU listed... what else should I see?

Bingo! You guys rock! All looks good. I rolled back to a Dec 15 2017 driver from Nvidia and started up MEP and everything is peaches and cream again. Now, I am going to try and see if Hardware encoding can work... never seen it before but color me optimistic.
