Magix movie editor pro problem (green)

videonoob wrote on 9/24/2014, 4:38 PM

Hi everyone!

I am new to the forum and was hoping i could profit from your collective expertise. This may be a simple problem but as my name suggests i am not exactly a veteran of video editing :)

The problem I encountered is using both VLC media player and Magix movie editor pro.

I used VLC to cut short clips out of long films, which i filmed with a gopro hero 2 and a hero 3+. now the original (long) videos of BOTH cameras play flawlessly in magix. However only the clips i cut from the videos filmed with the gopro hero 3+ cannot be played by magix.

The clips' audio plays normally, while the image remains entirely solid green.

Again, I used VLC to cut these clips from videos flimed by both cameras, while the problem of the green screen only persists with all the clips cut from the hero 3+ videos.

The original videos filmed by gopro hero 3+ (uncut by VLC) play normally.

I have put a great deal of effort into collecting all these clips, and wanted to make a short film, but most of my footage doesnt play.

I really hope someone has a solution to this problem.

any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

I'd suggest you first reduce the problem to its absolute essentials. If I have it right, there is one particular set of video files that, when imported into version X of MEP, don't behave correctly. Therefore can you upload a small (non-confidential) example so that we can try it. I'm hopeful that we might find a suitable conversion of the troublesome files.

You also need to give us more information so that we have a better chance to help. Start with the version of MEP that you're using! But then read this sticky too:

Have you also posted to the GoPro and VLC forums?

Further to what Terry says, I see you wrote that "the original (long) videos of BOTH cameras play flawlessly in magix" so why not simply carry out all your edting etc. directly in MEP?  I realise this will entail extra work initially but will remove any necessity to re-encode the clips from GoPro Hero 3+, which could lead to quality loss.

I just tried to upload one of the files as suggested, but the videos are in .mp4 format. this is true for both the videos of the gopro3+ and the hero2, so that cant be the problem. .mp4  is supported my magix movie editor pro 2014. As to why i dont simply edit directly in magix: i purchased the program after already having accumulated the vlc recordings. repeating the entire process would mean over 2 weeks of work.

I have read about this green screen appearing in other programs, but found no information about how to solve the problem for magix.

Use a hosting site and upload it there. I use Dropbox, for example, but there are many choices.

Meanwhile, although a long shot,  try changing the file extension to say MPG and attaching that in your post. If that succeeds, we can simply change it back to MP4 before using it.

You didn't answer my last question about posting to the more relevant forums. I don't think this is an MEP problem. My bet would be that VLC did not faithfully edit the GoPro files.

Did our suggestions three weeks ago solve your problem?

Feedback is always appreciated, and can also help other users to learn.
