Magix Video Deluxe mx has stopped working on Windows 8

guenter.swatschina wrote on 1/8/2014, 1:38 AM

Hello!

I've just installed MEP and also applied the patch 'patch_video_dlx_mx_11.0.6.0.exe' from this website but I still can't even start the software!

It crashes when it's loading the MIDI settings or sometimes when it is loading the main application window...

This is simply annoying and there is no help from Magix! I didn't work with the software but already started getting angry that I have spent 80€ on this lousy software.

I am using: Windows 8 Enterprise 64-bit

I also tried to run as administrator. I am not using NORTON Anti Virus Software.

Please help! Any ideas?

Any  ideas? Any patches? Any tricks to get some detailed error logs for this software?

I would not buy this software again! No support, no help. That's just frustrating...

Hi,

In the heading of your question, you indicated that you installed Magix Video Deluxe mx  and that you just installed MEP and applied the patch 11.xxxx. This is a couple of years old and I doubt that it works with Windows 8, which is probably why you have a problem and why you cannot get support from Magix. You may have to upgrade to 2014. Perhaps someone else can weigh in on this.

Did you have MEP installed on another machine with an older operating system? If so, successfully?

As for support, I have had no problems getting support within 1 year of purchasing a program from Magix. I use the on-line support, not telephone.

Regards,

Hi

Is this a first time install or a reinstall on a new computer?

What is the source of MEP MX - this is an older version ( 2 generations ) and may have issues with Windows 8.

Is this Windows 8 or 8.1 ?

. . . . I am not using NORTON Anti Virus Software . . .

What are you using?

As first step, using Windows Explorer search for videodeluxe.ini - include in the search, hidden and system folders - you should find several versions - the one you want is the largest in file size - delete it, then start MEP.

Hi, thanks for your replies.

This is a reinstallation on a new computer. I had successfully installed it on another machine with Windows XP 2 years ago.

The file is called "videodeluxe.exe" and file version is 11.0.6.0.
The shortcut and product name is "MAGIX Movie Edit Pro MX Version 18". Any recommendations for upgrades? Thx

ANTI-VIRUS: I am using Trend Micro OfficeScan Client 10.6.3205 SP2

I've found 2 files called "videodeluxe.ini", deleted them and restarted MEP. No changes.

I have found a solution! I've run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter and now I am running it in Windows XP SP3 mode. It finally works...

You may want to upgrade to MEP2014 Plus. See the Xara site as they are selling it for a discounted price of 50$ until Feb 2.
