Main concept in MEP 2015?

jeffjn wrote on 11/10/2014, 1:14 PM

Although they are still detailed in the manual, I can't see any way of using the Main Concept encoder in MEP 2015. All that comes up are the Intel options.

This also seems to impact on the Smartrender options - projects that showed the abilty to smartrender before don't now?

Anyone else able to find them?

OK, I can answer my own question - I need to pay for it!

Sure it was free in 2014/2013 :-(

Hi

. . . . I need to pay for it! . . . .

If you have MEP 2015 Basic version?

. . . . Sure it was free in 2014/2013 . . .

It was in the Plus and Premium versions.

Projects which would render using CUDA should render using the Intel QuickSync - how fast depends on the integrated HD graphics chip.

In my case an i5 gen 4 processor with HD4600 integrated graphics uses Quicksync whenever rendering needs it and it is fast !

I need to pay £5 for the mp4 Main concept codec even in Premium, the mp2 is free. Not complaining :-)

I looks to me that you need the Main Concept for Smartrender - Direct stream copy. The Intel codecs don't do it at all for mp2 and only Smart copy seems to work for MP4.

Hardware acceleration is very good if you have a Intel chip with HD graphics though - I don't currently have a Cuda card either.

Hi

. . . . Smart copy, . . . .

This works for any format which is not being converted and has no effects applied to it, not just mp4's.

What is your computer specification?

Hi John

Have you found an improvement in picture quality using  the Intel encoder and Quicksync HW acceleration? I think I saw a comment somewhere from support that claimed a quality improvement overall with the Intel encoder.

Mainconcept disabled too many MPEG4 optimisations in their HW encoder which resulted in noticeable quality losses when encoding 1080 50p material, to the point that I can not use it for final output.
