"major update" wiped all my settings

Today when I started my Video Pro X (9) a "major update" announced itself. In a flash of mental alienation I clicked OK without making a system backup first. After about 2 hours or so during which it downloaded about all effects and filters I already had and I had to dig up my serial no. This "update" appears to have wiped all my settings. It looks as if I installed a new program on an empty PC. Am I doing something wrong or are Magix developers doing something wrong? The same thing happened half a year ago when I upgraded from X6 to X9 but I thought that was my punishment for skipping 2 releases. This was supposed to be just an update. My version nr. is now 16.0.1.236.

Hi,

Someone had to be first, and you were that person. This is a major update, from 15 to 16, with the media pool changed like Movie Edit Pro.

Can you give us more detail as to where the program was installed?

I'm still on 15.0.5.211, version 9, and the ini and umly files are in:

C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Video_Pro_X8

Is there a new folder for these? Are the old files still in the old location? Did the previous version get deleted?

One of the basic ideas behind the new system was that we would not lose our settings and that the Documents, including project files, stayed in the same place. It would be interesting to see just what was affected...before I update, or in my case, upgrade, as my 365 days expired a few weeks ago.

I had started another thread on this new version. Perhaps you could post some comments on the new features there.
