Making trivial change to DVD menu?

terrypin wrote on 10/4/2014, 12:41 PM

My latest project took 2 hours to render from MEP 2014. I want to make a trivial change to the menu. (Change the music track, playing while the customised main menu is displayed, as my first choice was poorly chosen.)

I was wondering if I could accomplish it as follows:

1. Remove all the content from the timeline (if necessary adding back short images to represent its 12 chapters) and save that as new project.
2. Make the music change in the Arranger
3. Render the new project.
4. (The iffy part.) Replace the appropriate BUP/IFO/VOB files in the original 2 hour DVD by those in the new small one.

I had limited success as shown here:

Any ideas on how I can get this working please?

Or any other simple way of making trivial changes to the menu without re-rendering the whole project?

Hi Terry

This is not possible because the changes you make in the menu may change its VOB size and move reference points stored in the IFO files as well as changing the locations of the files on the DVD.

The IFO (information) files contain all the information a DVD player needs to know about a DVD for the navigation and playing of DVD content such as where a chapter starts, where a certain audio or subtitle stream is located, information about menu functions and navigation to ensure they work correctly.

Hi Terry

Isn't this taken care of by making the changes to you existing project then choosing the appropriate Use, Use All, Encode, prompts that come up when you hit burn?

Hi

. . . . Isn't this taken care of by making the changes to you existing project then choosing the appropriate Use, Use All, Encode, prompts that come up when you hit burn? . . .

And the option to re-encode the menus etc.

Peter

Duh - and I used to know that, having spent ages interpreting its obscure labels back in the days of  MEP 11!

Thanks Peter.
