Medium DVD Download with Windows 10

sidontheroad wrote on 1/14/2018, 11:11 AM

I just tried to burn my first DVD using Movie Edit Pro Plus 2018 on my new computer with windows 10. I got the message "For copyright reasons, activation is required for the medium DVD. Would you like to activate now for free?"

I selected the "activate online" option. That warning box disappeared, but it looks like it did not download because after closing the program and trying to burn the project I get the same message box.

I had a similar problem when downloading the MPEG-4 codec, did some reading and it looked like windows 10 is picky about administrator rights (or something like that). I am wondering if this is a similar problem?

Any suggestions?

Hi, welcome to the Magix forums.

I selected the "activate online" option. That warning box disappeared, but it looks like it did not download because after closing the program and trying to burn the project I get the same message box.

How long did you wait between the box disappearing and closing the program? I suspect you may not have waited long enough for MEP to contact the registration server to create the activation. It should eventually give you a confirmation message of successful activation.

As for the UAC, User Account Control pop-up (that asks if you want to make changes to your computer) it might pop-up if you leave the program open for a few minutes at least (to allow the connection to be made to Magix); clearly you can click Yes in this case!

Hello emmrecs, thank you for the welcome and thank you for your reply.

I have tried it again, waiting over 30 minutes after clicking on the "activate online" button and still no luck.

Hi. Sorry you're still having this problem.

My only other thought is whether your AV/Firewall is configured to allow MEP to go on-line? Which AV and firewal do you use?

I have no idea what AV is and I have no idea what firewall I have. Sorry.

Hi folks,

I happen to have a very similar problem (i.e. not being able to do free DVD or MPEG2 activation). As with sidontheroad, when I click "Activate online", that window will disappear, but I never get any confirmation message. I have tried waiting for many minutes, but it never shows up. I have also tried launching the program as administrator but the same problem occurs. When I look at the Windows Defender Firewall settings, Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus does have permission to communicate through the firewall (both private and public network). I am using Win10 OS and Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus Version 18.0.1.213 (UDP3). Any suggestions?

See my recent post about the same problem here:
https://www.magix.info/uk/forum/cannot-use-my-mp4-codec--1216784/#ca1420364

I sent a ticketed email to Magix Support. Although I have yet to get a satisfactory resolution, I suggest you do the same via this site's Support page as I get the impression this is no longer being investigated.

Meanwhile I am working around the problem reasonably well by running MEPP in Admin mode. The only significant downside to that is that my long-standing preference has always been to drag files (media and projects) to the timeline from their File Explorer folders, rather than import from the program itself. That is not possible in Admin mode.

Hi all,

I finally got my DVD burning issue resolved. It was a simple solution but it took a while. I had to deactivate the program (through the help screen), uninstall the program, and then manually delete the "installation.ini" file (located in C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\[program name]\installation.ini). Upon reinstallation, everything worked fine. The reason it took a while was because I couldn't deactivate the program for some unknown reason. (Maybe that problem was related to the DVD burning problem.) The Magix support person had to deactivate it on their end, and then I was able to uninstall, etc.
