Menu Bar Disappeared

jennifinch wrote on 12/16/2015, 3:36 PM

So I've had Movie Edit Pro for a few months now but recently my menu bar has disappeared somehow. It has three movable windows - the importing window, the view of the movie and the storyboard but the menu at the top of the application has vanished - meaning I have no way of exporting or saving the movie.

Any help much appreciated!  I have windows 10 and it's movie edit pro 2016

Thanks

Did you install MEP before upgrading to Windows 10?

If not, the try resetting by pressing on F9.

If so, you may have to follow the instructions in the tutorial about upgrading to Windows 10 under the Tutorials tab.

Did you follow the tutorial which John CB pointed to when you uninstalled MEP/VPX. If not, it's here.

It is vital to follow it precisely in order to ensure ALL previous vestiges of the old installation are removed.  Only once this is fully done should you attempt to reinstall MEP/VPX.

The reason for this is simply because certain files/folders are created ONLY when the program is first run, or a first save is done; the original installer does not know about these files/folders, because it did not create them, so it cannot remove them. It is entirely feasible that one of those files could be causing the problem you are seeing.

If you installed a newer version, the start up the first time should have been correct. Were you able to put in the Activation code when the program started after installing it?

How are you starting the program? By double-clicking on the MVP file? Or from the menu?

If you start from the menu, are you starting the new version?

Here is another thing to try. Rename the file: Videodeluxe.ini to Videodeluxe.BAK

in the following folder:

C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\MAGIX\Videodeluxe25_premium

When you start the program, a new Videodeluxe.ini file be created. Check back in the folder to see if it does and let us know.

Post a new screen shot of what you see after starting the program. You can embed it in the reply by clicking on the image Upload File button at the top of the message.

Did you see my suggestion in your other post, prior to being closed by moderator? Check that you do not run in Tablet mode.

@browj2

Rather then using C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming, it can (and should) be substituted with simply %APPDATA% as that will use the correct path regardless of username and location (or language) of the User directory.
It can be type directly in File explorers addressbar or from Windows Start like this (including the percantage signs):
%APPDATA%\MAGIX\Videodeluxe25_premium

This works even if the AppData directory below users directory is hidden, as it is by default
