Menu options & deleting menus

Dennis-Rigney wrote on 12/6/2020, 11:00 PM

In short, I am using Movie Edit Pro Plus, when I delete a video from the menu options i sometimes end up with 2 of the same videos in the menu template. When I try to retrieve the original menu/video a popup screen tells me I can't undo this option. Secondly, what are the best settings to burn a DVD to a HD TV. My settings are as follows HDTV-25fps, Full HD 1080p (1980x1080) 16:9. I would appreciate any help/suggestions. Hardware: i7-10700 CPU@2.90ghz, 16.0 GB installed & 64-bit operating system.

Hi Dennis,

I have no idea what you are talking about. How do you delete a video from "menu options?" What "menu?" When you click on one of the buttons in the top menu (File, Edit, Effects...) you get a dropdown menu - a list of selections.

Why would you delete a video, except from the timeline?

What has deleting a video from somewhere, we don't know where, have to do with menu templates? What are "menu templates?"

Please consult the manual and use the terminology that you find there. Give us a step by step of what you are doing and why - which buttons you are pressing, which menu/submenu you are using, etc. Screen shots help.

@Dennis-Rigney

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Like @browj2 I, too, am confused about exactly what you are doing or trying to do! Can you also tell us exactly which version of MEP Plus you are running? You can find that information under Help>About.

However, you ask what are the best settings to burn a DVD to a HD TV.  There is a basic misconception inherent in that question!

The DVD Specification allows ONLY for video at Standard Definition. It is a very common misunderstanding that one can create a "High Definition" DVD. I believe the Export settings you list are fine (except for 1920 x 1080) but the resulting output will be downscaled for the actual disc.

The only method of achieving "High Definition" output is to burn a standard DVD using the "AVCHD" option, but the maximum playing time is limited to about 30 minutes, or to burn to Blu-ray. In either of these latter cases the discs will only play on a Blu-ray player.

Hi

In addition to @emmrecs comment:

. . . .  It is a very common misunderstanding that one can create a "High Definition" DVD. I believe the Export settings you list are fine (except for 1920 x 1080) but the resulting output will be downscaled for the actual disc.. . . .

This misunderstanding may partly be caused by the fact that you can burn as Blu-Ray (1920 x 1080) on to a standard DVD disc providing:

  1. the burner supports burning Blu-Ray
  2. the movie on the timeline is no longer that 25 - 30 mins

Note: this is a genuine Blu-Ray movie and requires a Blu-Ray player, it will not play in a DVD only player.

Similarly on a computer you need a Blu-Ray drive and player software that supports Blu-Ray .

If your source material is SD ie 720 x 576 (PAL) or 720 x 480 (NTSC) then it is better to burn a standard DVD disc and allow the player/TV to do the upscaling.

Hope this does not add to the confusion.
