mep 2014 Audio breaking on play back

keiron wrote on 2/10/2014, 5:51 AM

I have raised a ticket for this but maybe someone can help

Im recording video from a toshiba camcorder using hdmi in full 1080p, audio turned off

The Audio is sent directly into M Audio 192 card from my keyboard to get the best quality

The video is going to an HDMI card in

When i play the video back there are audio breaks - losses in the audio play back, this also occurs if the video is exported, video is fine

Two other video recording Software programs record and plays back without any problems, so i believe it something Magix Movie Edit Pro 2013 and 2014 Premium are doing differently

Also I have Magix Music Maker 2013 and Magix Samplitude 2013 and now 2014 work fine beit not video

You help is much appreciated

Thank you

Hi.

First, the HDMI interface carries both video and audio.  So if you are also using a separate audio input you are, it appears, recording two audio streams.  Is that correct?  I see you say "audio is turned off", presumably at the camera(?) but I am not sure whether that can be applied to an HDMI data stream.

You say you are sending the audio "directly into M Audio 192 card".  OK, but the effect of this is that you are creating a completely separate audio file (what sample rate BTW?) which you will then need to synchronise exactly with the "video" file.  And what are you using a "keyboard" for?  That seems to suggest yet another audio stream!

So, I think the problem may be caused by your multitude of audio streams which, if "recorded" to your computer separately, may well not be "in sync".  There are ways to correct this audio "drift" as it is called - e.g. I think MEP 2014 includes the option to "Align other audio objects with this track" - as well as programs like DualEyes or PluralEyes which can automatically "correct" any drift present in an audio track so that it is perfectly in sync with your "original camera audio".

Hopefully this will give you some thoughts as to why you are experiencing this problem!

Hi Jeff

Thank you for your Help

I have set Magix to use the Audio from the M audio card and the video from the HDMI in card The M audio card was set to a rate of 48k, I did try lowing the rate without success

and also lowered the recording rate from 320 to 120 still same problem

Camera is not in CAM mode so it's using HDMI

Apologies just to clarify, the recording is not out of sync, there are breaks in the audio when using Magix Movie Edit Pro, I've tried two other programs that do not cause this issue

AverMedia rec Central records on HDMI in with audio from the M Audio card at 1080p no problems

Debut Video Capture also records on HDMI with audio from the M Audio st 1080p  no problems

On a different note !

With the Camera in CAM mode using USB the recorded possible video size is different for different software

Magix looks like it can only record upto 640 x 480 in this mode with this HD Camcorder and can record this ok with no problems

Debut Video Capture looks the same 640 x 480 and records ok

AVS Video recorder can record ok upto 640 x 480 using avi, if set to 1280 x 720 in avi mode audio is way out of sync, but using MPEG 4 video is ok "very slight delay"

Recording with different  PC Cams was ok at around 320 x 280 at 30 fps was ok, above that video size  that was a bit problomatic

Hi

What is the model of camera you have?

The Toshiba models I have looked at can connect directly to the computer by USB cable.  They then appear as an external drive on your computer.  this should be explained in the camers manual.

Using Windows Explorer the video files can then be copied direct to the PC without the need to record anything.

Hi John

Thankyou for your help

It's a Toshiba z100 3d HD camcorder

I spoke to Toshiba who have confirmed that it can be connected via usb and does support full HD and have said it's the software that may not be able to do it

I want to record the audio from the keyboard not the camcorder mic as the quality is far better there is no stereo audio in on the camcorder

Hence I cant use the sd card to do this

AVS video recording software has successfully recorded at 1280 x 720 with the Camcorder in CAM mode

None of the software I've tried in CAM mode have successfully recorded 1920 x 1080p hence the reson for using HDMI + audio, I've not found a way to input the audio into the HDMI Path

Kindest wishes

Keiron

keiron.

What John is pointing you to is the fact that if you connect your camera direct to you computer via USB, the computer will see the camera as an additional Hard Drive.  You can then copy the files from the camera to your computer.

If the camera audio is not good enough for your purposes you can, given the caveats in my previous post, substitute a new audio file for the camera' audio file simply by placing it on the timeline and muting the original camera audio.

However, I'm still confused about the "keyboard".  Or, is it that you are video recording someone (yourself?) playing the keyboard by passing the video output from the camera directly ("live", as it were) to your PC and also simultaneously recording the audio to the same computer?  If so, a FAR better/easier route is to do the following:

  • Record the video and audio of the performance to your camera.  DO NOT connect it to your PC.
  • Simultaneously record the audio to your PC as you have been doing.
  • Connect your camera to your PC via USB.  Copy the file from your camera to your PC.
  • Put that video file on the beginning of the MEP timeline.
  • Put the "proper" (better quality) audio file on the next available track, ensuring it is at the start of the timeline.
  • Right click on the audio track from your original camera file and choose the option to "Align other audio objects with this track".  This should line up the audio with the picture.
  • Mute the audio on the camera file.
  • Edit/Export/Burn to your heart's content!

HTH

Hi Jeff and John

First of all thank you both for you help it's much appreciated

I also appreciate how things can be done in the many different ways, but after all I have paid money to Magix for a video solution.

All im asking is why the recorded audio in Magix has audio breaks in it, when other software works ok

I'll use the AVS software or AVerMedia to record for now and Magix to edit it

Again thankyou for you help and assistance

Kindest wishes
