MEP 2014: Cannot play many AVIs

terrypin wrote on 2/16/2014, 10:36 AM

I've spent most of the day on this in vain so far and would much appreciate some help please!

I have a folder of video files mostly made by capturing screenshots with CamStudio 2.0, a program I've used for years. They all play OK in all my players and in MEP 2013 and previous versions.

But not in MEP 2014.

This is an example.

On the right you see what correct playback looks like in VirtualDub. But in MEP 2014 the monitor area is empty! (Same if exported, not just playback.)

I've tried using INI from backups and rebooting PC.

I'm almost certain I've played these in MEP 2014 before, but just in case could someone download and try the example I've uploaded to make sure the problem doesn't lie with MEP 2014 please. I'm wondering whether maybe, unlike previous versions, 2014 doesn't support the CSCD codec: RenderSoft CamStudio lossless (LZO & GZIP compression), as that appears to be the codec used in all the problem files.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/512a1qaq2jsuz9v/MEP-Puzzle.avi

(It's mainly static; it's just the display I'm interested in.)

Assuming it plays OK for others (i.e. the map is visible) any suggestions on what my problem might be please?

Hi Terry

I can only play this file in VLC - all other players, MEP versions and my converters say the codec ( ACM video) is not installed.

Have you answered this question here. - second paragraph

Thanks John, but I'm lost! The codec (as reported by both MediaInfo and GSpot) is the one I gave, not 'ACM video' but CSCD , i.e. RenderSoft CamStudio lossless (LZO & GZIP compression). I assume you need CamStudio installed to have that codec on your PC. And that;s why I can play it in 7 players and at least  3 versions of MEP. But not 2014

Have you answered this question here. - second paragraph

I don't think there's a clear relation between that and this, despite the mention of CamStudio!

No one else tried playing the file in MEP 2014 please?

I'm getting the same results as John but MediaCoder says the codec is CSCD

Hi Terry,

I downloaded and tried your avi in several programs without success. If you can get the files to work with something, I suggest that you export them to another format for use in 2014.

Sorry, can't help more.

Jeff, John CB,

Thanks, appreciate your taking the trouble to test it.

I guess I really need to hear from someone who has CamStudio 2.0 installed as well as MEP 2014. And therefore has the correct CSCD codec on the system. I'm coming to the conclusion that such a user would get the same result as me. Namely that the file will play widely in video players and in all MEP versions - except MEP 2014.

I've sent a ticketed support request.

MAGIX have replicated the problem and are investigating its cause.
