MEP 2014: Easily reproduced bug?

terrypin wrote on 11/1/2013, 11:07 AM

1. Place 5 JPGs on the timeline of a new project or movie.

2. Open Effects > Design Elements > Collages

3. Apply [>] 5 Obj. 06 to the first image.

4. The collage effect is created (correctly AFAIK).

5. Reset video effects (may have to repeat this twice).

A ghost of image #1 is left in track 8. It's visible but that's all! It can't be deleted directly. The only way I found to get rid of it (without restarting MEP 2014) was to import another object into its position and delete that.
Edit: And much easier: click M twice.

The same thing happens with 01, 02 and 05.

Confirmation would be appreciated please, before I call the local exorcist.

And collage 04 has a different bug: the collage uses only 4 of the 5 objects and on being reset their durations are changed.

Terry,

I get the effect you describe. It's perhaps more of a nuisance then a bug as it doesn't seem to have any lasting effect. The rouge display on track eight can also be removed by scroling or zooming the tracks -- anything that forces a scree refresh.

But still, so close past Halloween, call in the exorcist!

Regards,

Carl

Hi Terry,

I had no problem with the collage [>] 5 Obj. 06 and reset in MEP2014 Plus. With the reset, the complete effect disappeared, even on track 8.

For the other one 04, I can confirm that it only takes 4, not 5 objects.

Regards,

John

Thanks both, interesting results. See also my post in the parallel thread about inconsistency. If you get time you might try 'provoking' trouble by:

1. Repeatedly using similar similar files in different collages (something I do frequently when experimenting for a favoured result).

2. Copy/pasting results along the timeline

3. Adjusting the overall length of the result.

BTW, Carl's using Win 7, I'm still with XP; what's your OS, John?

Carl,

I haven't seen that 'rouge display'. Are you sure you didn't overdo the Shiraz last night?

Some call it 'rouge display', some call it 'ghost of image'. What ever it is it's on track eight and you saw it first! :-)

As an aside, here's a set of 16 numbered 16:9 images that I find useful, particularly when working with collages.

I repeated that test in MEP2013+ with a fresh start, fresh project, no tweaking. This time no ghost remained. But note the following evidence that it's still possibly lurking around ready to strike again against the unwary!

Hi Terry and Carl,

I updated my profile. My system is:

Windows7 SP1; 8Gb RAM; 2.80Gz; ATI Radeon HD5770 w/1GB; main HD 1TB; others 1.5TB, 3TB, 500GB, plus network drive 3TB

and I have a 27" main screen and a second 19" screen.

Magix software:

MEP2014, 2013, MX, 17; MM2014 prem; SMS2013; ACL2013; PhotoManager12 Deluxe; PhotoStory2013 Deluxe; Xara Designer Pro X9

Gentlemen, your problems, comments and solutions piqued my curiosity and have helped me learn much more about MEP than just doing quick edits on the timeline.

Terry, as you probably noted in my reply to your other post about collages, I got an artifact on track 6 after resetting. I will post a reply to your post about key frames on collages.

Regards,
